Zodiac Mixtape: The Jazz Version

dextergordon

My appreciation for all types of music truly knows no bounds. I truly believe that music is a language that many of us can relate to. It’s a medium which communicates deeply personal as well as collective messages. There are many people whom I’ve had discussions with that tell me a certain song conveys a thought or feeling far better than their own words ever could. The simple fact is that we’re all bound by cords in this universe. What we experience in every day life permeates through myth, music, movies, etc.  All of these themes embody our wants, needs and motivations.

With my love for both music and astrology, there is no way that I’m going to pass up a chance to fuse the two every time I can. Like music, astrology is a symbolic language, which translates what’s “above” to what’s “below”. Astrology is simply celestial music. As with my hip-hop and soul mixtapes, I have selected musical compositions which speak to the spirit of each zodiac sign and the manner in which their energies demand expression. I now present to you the Jazz version of the zodiac mixtape. Thank you for joining me on this

Taurus Sun, Cancer Moon

(photo : pelicanhill.com)

(Excerpt from the upcoming “Book of Taurus”)

All is peaceful in the safe haven. There is a minimal threat to security and risk is minimal.

In this Sun/Moon blend, mix the sweet, Venusian urge for connecting with Lunar sustenance and nutrition.

A reigning consistency in mostly all things allows you to feel sane, and “like yourself”. This is reflected in a personality which needs to nurture; to give and receive tender loving care in a private shell of human warmth.

You “take care” through emotional responsiveness. The touch of your hands and the extension of your heart is the conduit of  affection. “Build it so it will grow” may very well be your motto,

In the midst of life’s serenity, you’re going to faced with the question:

Is my “safe haven” TOO safe?

The Taurus Mixtape: Rock Steady

Taurus2

Shout out to all of the Taurus family out there !! Yes… the time has come where we pay homage to you, and with good reason.

I’ve always had an issue of how Taureans are portrayed in many Astrological texts. The bull somehow gets typecast as slow-witted, dull, ultra-obstinate and just as a downright snoozer. Somehow, these characterizations never fit my real life experience with Tauruses.

I have always found them to be very passionate, loyal people who have the tenacity to see their vision through to the very end. Now… this is not to say that their vision may be fixed straight ahead possibly giving the peripheral little consideration, but their heart is always in the right place without a doubt. When the bull is mis-using their energy, the “if it ain’t broke” mentality may rise to the surface.

This is where incorporating some of the energy of their complimentary sign, Scorpio will give them some “act right”. Taurus is a builder. One of their tasks is to create and acquire physical manifestations of their labor. As an earth sign, Taurus wants to know what success looks like, whether it’s that new Lexus or an extra 20 g’s in the bank account. From the bull’s point of view, motivational tapes are fine, but brick and mortar is where it’s at.

If anyone in the zodiac is the steady rock with  the physical stamina to boot, it’s you, Taurus. You can and WILL get it done. I present to you my musical dedication.

Aries Sun, Aries Moon

*Excerpt from the upcoming “Book of Aries”

There’s a storm comin’, and it’s in the form of a double Aries Sun/Moon combination.

It’s evident that your heart’s desire to make your mark in the world and your aspiration to develop courage and intestinal fortitude have tremendous potential to be “on the same page” if you’ll allow that power to operate through you.

For you, it’s important to realize that no Woman/Man is an island, and there’s indescribable value in understanding that it’s through your relationships that you have an opportunity to gain self-understanding. YOU wouldn’t be YOU without points of comparison.

You walk the fine line, teetering between firm assertion of your self-interest and what you feel you should give other people. The red hot potency of your identity won’t be denied and you’ll go great lengths to defend it.

The well worn path rarely has enough heat to activate the fire which stirs in your soul. You would much rather blaze a trail of your own for others to follow than fall in line as the proverbial “good samaritan”. Some of the questions which this combination asks is: Will you finish what you’ve started? How complete is the model that you wish to use to represent you?

Consider that during war, “retreat” can sometimes be used as a competent strategy and that to yield doesn’t always indicate weakness. In fact, it suggests a versatility which can allow you to accomplish feats beyond your wildest dreams

The Metaphysical Book List

“The love of books is a love which requires neither justification, apology, nor defense.”

-J.A. Langford, The Praise of Books (1880)

Synthesizing and combining broad bases of knowledge is something I’ve been interested in ever since I can remember. The sense that there’s a unifying thread running through everything in our lives.

The study of metaphysical thought is something which has broadened and deepened my existence. It’s my hope that you may find value in this list of books I’ve put together. It’s up to us to analyze the information with critical eyes and insert the knowledge and wisdom into our life philosophy where we feel it’s applicable.

The 12 Astrological Houses: Areas of Life Development

12housesdevelopment

As outlined in earlier posts, the 12 Astrological houses in the birth chart symbolize areas of essential life development. It’s important that these fields of experience be viewed through a multidimensional and telescopic lens due to our continuous expansion and unfoldment as human beings. As we change, so will the scope of our existence.  Here’s some food for thought on the meanings of the houses:

1st House: Identity development. Self Presentation. Coming into our own. Becoming the “You” that you’re meant to be.

2nd House: Human resources. Formation of values, both spiritual and material. The worth which we assign to ourselves. How we can put what we are to concrete use.

3rd House: Intellectual development. Everyday connections. Classifying information[categorization]. Making distinctions. Logical analysis. Mindset. Immediate [local] surroundings.

4th House: Emotional development. “Home” as an emotional and spiritual  foundation. Roots, cultural origin and ancestral lineage. The “Family” experience as biological and ideological.

5th House:  “Play” as expression of one’s creativity. Sex for enjoyment and “performance”. “Children” as both biological offspring and creative projects. The realm of entertainment. The unique gifts that only WE can give to the world.

6th House: Skill development. Craftsmanship. Mastery of life’s basic processes. Perfection of techniques to be offered as service to humanity. Maintenance of physical health. Effective living. Overall self-improvement.

7th House: Relationship development. The “Other”. What we attract in others. Also, what we can possibly project. Business partners. Public projection.

8th House: The realm of intimacy development. The domain of sharing resources/values with another. Where money, time, sex, etc… are experienced as a form of currency. Obligations or debts to others. The manner in which our lives are transformed through emotional involvement. Sex for bonding. The legacy we’ve inherited.

9th House: Philosophical + holistic development. Gaining a wider perspective. Broadening worldview through exploration of universal systems of knowledge. The larger world outside of one’s immediate experience. Cultural education. Religious and Spiritual teachings.

10th House: Vocational development. Reputation. Public standing. The world’s stage. Recognition. What we wish to be known for, or potential of how we can be remembered. The “calling” we feel prompted to answer. The “weight”, or authority we carry in the world.

11th House:  Social development. Where we want/need to be loved. Locating ourselves as individuals within the collective context. Challenging group dynamics. Intellectual exchange with like minds. Advancing causes by way of the masses. The progression of humanity at large.

12th House:  Spiritual development. The inner sanctuary. The secret garden where we cultivate psychic energy. Where we let go, forget and transcend. The relaxing of the will. Faith in the divine plan. Where we forego the ego’s pull in favor of allowing energies to work through us. Making the choice between peace and prison.
