Zodiac Mixtape: The Jazz Version

dextergordon

My appreciation for all types of music truly knows no bounds. I truly believe that music is a language that many of us can relate to. It’s a medium which communicates deeply personal as well as collective messages. There are many people whom I’ve had discussions with that tell me a certain song conveys a thought or feeling far better than their own words ever could. The simple fact is that we’re all bound by cords in this universe. What we experience in every day life permeates through myth, music, movies, etc.  All of these themes embody our wants, needs and motivations.

With my love for both music and astrology, there is no way that I’m going to pass up a chance to fuse the two every time I can. Like music, astrology is a symbolic language, which translates what’s “above” to what’s “below”. Astrology is simply celestial music. As with my hip-hop and soul mixtapes, I have selected musical compositions which speak to the spirit of each zodiac sign and the manner in which their energies demand expression. I now present to you the Jazz version of the zodiac mixtape. Thank you for joining me on this

Taurus Sun, Cancer Moon

(Excerpt from the upcoming “Book of Taurus”)

All is peaceful in the safe haven. There is a minimal threat to security and risk is minimal.

In this Sun/Moon blend, mix the sweet, Venusian urge for connecting with Lunar sustenance and nutrition.

A reigning consistency in mostly all things allows you to feel sane, and “like yourself”. This is reflected in a personality which needs to nurture; to give and receive tender loving care in a private shell of human warmth.

You “take care” through emotional responsiveness. The touch of your hands and the extension of your heart is the conduit of  affection. “Build it so it will grow” may very well be your motto,

In the midst of life’s serenity, you’re going to faced with the question:

Is my “safe haven” TOO safe?

Taurus Sun, Aries Moon

*Excerpt from the upcoming “Book of Taurus”

You have the potential to create value and beautify your surroundings through sheer consistency. After all, there’s a certain serenity in others knowing what they can expect from you. Being “solid as a rock” is something that comes naturally, but keep in mind that  a rock can also be an immovable object that’s incapable of any flexibility, as sometimes yielding and giving way to the more flexible parts of your being is wise.

While the Taurean fuel composed of persistence and stamina assists in grounding the Aries propensity to start “with a bang” and then become bored, moving on to new frontiers to conquer, the fiery Arian influence contributes passion, which counters a tendency to regress toward possible inertia: simply seeking to do things the way they’ve always been done without examining if they’re still working or yielding the desired results.

What you’re really seeking to do with this blend is to have impact in the world without forcing or “ramming” your agenda down the throats of others, and see multiple possibilities, unlike a bull who only sees red and has blinders on.

You’re caught somewhere between : Fools Rush in”, “Haste makes waste” and “Courage is the power to let go of the familiar.”

Part of your lifetime work consists of helping these three to get along.

The Taurus Mixtape: Rock Steady

Taurus2

Shout out to all of the Taurus family out there !! Yes… the time has come where we pay homage to you, and with good reason.

I’ve always had an issue of how Taureans are portrayed in many Astrological texts. The bull somehow gets typecast as slow-witted, dull, ultra-obstinate and just as a downright snoozer. Somehow, these characterizations never fit my real life experience with Tauruses.

I have always found them to be very passionate, loyal people who have the tenacity to see their vision through to the very end. Now… this is not to say that their vision may be fixed straight ahead possibly giving the peripheral little consideration, but their heart is always in the right place without a doubt. When the bull is mis-using their energy, the “if it ain’t broke” mentality may rise to the surface.

This is where incorporating some of the energy of their complimentary sign, Scorpio will give them some “act right”. Taurus is a builder. One of their tasks is to create and acquire physical manifestations of their labor. As an earth sign, Taurus wants to know what success looks like, whether it’s that new Lexus or an extra 20 g’s in the bank account. From the bull’s point of view, motivational tapes are fine, but brick and mortar is where it’s at.

If anyone in the zodiac is the steady rock with  the physical stamina to boot, it’s you, Taurus. You can and WILL get it done. I present to you my musical dedication.

The Sagittarian Mind Mission Statement

Jason1

For those who may not be familiar with me or my blog, I’ve been a practicing counseling astrologer for nearly eight years.

One of the questions which proves to be ever pervasive in my mind concerns what will become of Astrology in the world’s ever-changing state.

I often think about the future of what I consider to be one of the most comprehensive systems of psychological and spiritual development our world has ever seen.

As a professional Astrologer, my mission consists of employing my ability to translate ancient concepts, symbols and forms into a practical everyday language which is totally accessible to the layperson.

In my mind, there’s no reason to engage in esoteric masturbation when clients want to be helped right here on earth.

My mission also consists of assisting others on their quest for self-discovery and a more complete understanding of their inner dynamics.

I aspire to be the best guide possible when exploring the parts of the individual psyche which require integration and synthesis for the development of the total person. I am not only an Astrologer, but I’m also a writer, educator, healer and a nurturer of human potential.

My style is holistic. It’s important to me that I open doors for others to locate the place within themselves which helps them to obtain a more multi-leveled and expansive view of themselves.

To grasp a larger sense of their ultimate life purpose and realize how their route of fulfillment is intimately interconnected to the cosmos is my ultimate aim.

Not only do I want others to realize their life has a special meaning, but I also wish to distribute the message that our lives are ultimately about the meaning which WE assign to it.

Astrology is about how we may work in tune with the cosmos to blend our separate fragments into a whole. How we join forces with the all to form a powerful and unified entity.

My mission consists of getting the word out that Astrology is only as limiting as we allow it to be. The signs, planets, houses and aspects don’t “make” us anything. It’s our responsibility to infuse purpose into every set of instructions contained within our birth maps.

We’re not stuck in a proverbial box, or symbolically held hostage by a zodiac sign telling us we have no behavioral options outside of the astrological cookbook variety.

In actuality, the entire universe containing ALL of the signs and planets is INSIDE of us ready and willing to be used as resources for our growth and development. THIS is the type of Astrology that I am elated to practice, and I dedicate myself to the propagation of this philosophy. I accept my calling from the universe of uplifting my fellow human beings with the utmost joy and enthusiasm.

*Excerpt from the upcoming “Book of Aries”

There’s a storm comin’, and it’s in the form of a double Aries Sun/Moon combination.

It’s evident that your heart’s desire to make your mark in the world and your aspiration to develop courage and intestinal fortitude have tremendous potential to be “on the same page” if you’ll allow that power to operate through you.

For you, it’s important to realize that no Woman/Man is an island, and there’s indescribable value in understanding that it’s through your relationships that you have an opportunity to gain self-understanding. YOU wouldn’t be YOU without points of comparison.

You walk the fine line, teetering between firm assertion of your self-interest and what you feel you should give other people. The red hot potency of your identity won’t be denied and you’ll go great lengths to defend it.

The well worn path rarely has enough heat to activate the fire which stirs in your soul. You would much rather blaze a trail of your own for others to follow than fall in line as the proverbial “good samaritan”. Some of the questions which this combination asks is: Will you finish what you’ve started? How complete is the model that you wish to use to represent you?

Consider that during war, “retreat” can sometimes be used as a competent strategy and that to yield doesn’t always indicate weakness. In fact, it suggests a versatility which can allow you to accomplish feats beyond your wildest dreams

The Metaphysical Book List

“The love of books is a love which requires neither justification, apology, nor defense.”

-J.A. Langford, The Praise of Books (1880)

Synthesizing and combining broad bases of knowledge is something I’ve been interested in ever since I can remember. The sense that there’s a unifying thread running through everything in our lives.

The study of metaphysical thought is something which has broadened and deepened my existence. It’s my hope that you may find value in this list of books I’ve put together. It’s up to us to analyze the information with critical eyes and insert the knowledge and wisdom into our life philosophy where we feel it’s applicable.
