Developmental Tasks: To engage in deep involvement with oneself via multifaceted inquiry. To process one’s experience through the lens of challenging the status quo.

If you think that your life’s task is to find a cozy spot smack dab in the middle of the “establishment” and go along to get along- please think again.

What you’re really here to do is live a life of deep significance which entails asking the right questions, which will “rock the boat”. Notice that I didn’t mention being liked as a top priority or concern, because when you sincerely embark upon this mission, it’s a toss up: some people will admire and love what you’re doing while others will find you unsettling because you’re disrupting their comfortable life with all of your damn questions.

Ideally, your aspirations center around turning over any and every rock which will reveal the REAL truth about precisely who and what you are. The question which permeates your astrological signature is: are you prepared to digest  “the good, the bad and the ugly”?  This arrangement in your birth chart suggests that the work of deep mining is done via an emotional need to gather, classify and analyze information. For you, there’s a safety in breaking things and sometimes people into parts in order to understand each component more fully.

An inquiring and versatile mind can serve as one of your many gifts. When optimally used, your intellect can be the instrument which can see through self-created facades as well as any b.s. that others attempt to send in your direction.

To question what seems to be “universally” accepted is one of your specialties. The things which usually get classified under: “Well, everyone knows that…..” are precisely the targets for which you aim. In your world, being well-adjusted isn’t about fitting into existing systems. Rather it’s about challenging them, rebelling against them and creating a more sound and liberating way of life for yourself and others.

As a reminder, it needs to be said that some of the lessons you’ll be learning won’t manifest in a lighthearted fashion. The minute you decide to actualize the potential that your birth chart contains, there will be tests. It’s important to ask yourself: no matter what I see or encounter, am I willing to look it directly in the eye and keep going?

A picture of this combination working in a constructive fashion is a versatile, intellectually adept rebel who’s also psychologically sophisticated.

Understanding which ideas to take seriously and implement into your life is crucial to your existence. There are a couple of things to take into consideration : (1) just because it ignites your passion doesn’t mean it’s something to run with and (2) it’s possible to agree with the majority and it still hold potential for your liberation in that area of life.

Ultimately, it’s the QUALITY of your rebellion and your learning that will determine your success, not the quantity.

The Depersonalization of Astrology

Image result for depersonalization

Astrology is much more.

Astrology is more than just signs.

Astrology is more than just a birth chart.

Astrology is about PEOPLE.

Every now and then, when I indulge in a bit of astro-humor, I re-visit a book called: “You’re Not a Person, Just a Birth Chart” by Paul F. Newman. I feel like some of the jokes are a brilliant illustration of the type of thinking we adopt when we start to use the zodiac signs and birth charts as the lowest common denominator to which we can possibly reduce a human being.

Currently, much of what I read (especially on the internet), seems to be threatening to drag us back to that place of reductionist thinking which I thought we had progressed from.

Was I just being silly? Or possibly naive? Have we EVER left that place? Those are a few questions among many which have crossed my mind in regard to this phenomena.

So often, I hear and read about actual human beings being referred to as: “This Sagittarius I know” or “That Scorpio I used to date”, etc. It now seems as if a large majority of what’s important to know about the actual PERSON is being bypassed in the name of some type of cosmic “shorthand.” In most cases, I’ve also discovered that this line of thinking eventually offers less depth of insight than the user originally anticipates.  Furthermore, when we do this, both the integrity of the person as well as the meaning of the sign are compromised.

Astrologer Glenn Perry states this adeptly:

“Signs have been more or less personified in popular Astrology. The result of this distortion is that we don’t describe Leo behavior, we describe Leo individuals, e.g., “He (Leo) is a showoff and likes to be the center of attention; he is quite extroverted.”

Perry goes on to state:

“It is misleading to depict signs in this manner. By equating signs with people, facets of the psyche are BLOWN UP into WHOLE PERSONS (caps mine) and the metaphorical meaning of the sign is lost.”

It seems as if  we’re gaining more bravado playing this dangerous game of minimization by using phrases that we think support our case like “The stars don’t lie.” However, what this appears to be, is an avoidance of taking on the intellectual labor to conceptualize, analyze, deduce and interpret using a holistic framework. This reminds me of a propaganda technique called “labeling” :

” A euphemism is used when the propagandist attempts to increase the perceived quality, credibility or credence of a particular ideal. A dysphemism is used when the intent of the propagandist is to discredit, diminish the perceived quality or hurt the perceived righteousness of the individual. By creating a “label”, “category” or “faction” of a population, it’s much easier to make an example of these larger bodies, because they can uplift or defame the individual without actually incurring legal defamation.”

There’s a gross misconception that when we refer to and label people as “signs” somehow we’re more justified in their criticism, praise or dismissal. It’s now easier , and more “cool” to view people in a fragmented fashion with blatant disregard for their complexity.

The points being made here are not to belittle the way in which anyone wishes to study, practice or understand astrology. Rather, it’s food for thought on the importance of elevating the discourse of a potent instrument for self-knowledge and the rich significance that rests in the work that’s required to learn about how the actual living, breathing human being relates to, and lives their existence in tandem with the Astrological chart, which doesn’t DEFINE them, but ACCOMPANIES them, AS A MAP, to navigate this thing we call life.

Virgo Sun, Pisces Moon

Image result for artistic woman

When a Virgo Sun and a Pisces Moon are combined in an individual birth chart, there’s immense potential for self-improvement and personal refinement via the use of one’s intuition and participation in the intangible realms of life.  The solar/lunar synthesis represents the invisible made visible and the ideal made real.

Very few things are more satisfying than to shape a concept or a dream and then give it physical form so that it manifests with solid physicality. This combination offers that opportunity.

The type of fuel this person requires is discriminating and practical; complete with high octane analytics.  It’s the dissecting of systems or people in service of more efficient operation.

The solar energy is reflected in a lunar personality which has an emotional need to assemble all of the pieces together and bridge any divisions between themselves and the spiritual source from which they originated.

The key to navigating this blend successfully is to shape inspirational and creative ideals into functional form; to not only visualize but to actualize.

A dysfunctional expression of this combination can suggest more dreaming and less doing, or the feeling that inspiration, without perspiration or preparation will be enough.

It’s important for natives with this blend to understand that floating on feelings of utopian bliss can only take you a portion of the distance you need to go to engineer your visions. If nothing more is done, you may be chasing castles in the sky or living in a fool’s paradise.

Conversely, the portals that contain the fluid and boundless flow of intuition must be kept open and not overly stifled via the allowance of the hyper-logical, or the straitjacket of conceptual incarceration,  into one’s creative realm.

Life’s Mission: To create and sustain a solid sense of self through the utilization of a sacred space designed to process one’s feelings. Becoming a “rock” for oneself and serving as a “container” of physical and emotional well-being for others.

In order to use this astrological signature for constructive personal development, one must strongly consider exploring themes tied to emotional, physical and material security. Two of the ever-present questions that serve as a litmus test will be: “Can I trust it?” And “Does it feel safe?”

The fundamental lens through which you process experiences is founded on a goal of the constant deepening of your connection to life and others through relationships, while simultaneously creating and maintaining  a private inner space to ground and process the full gamut of emotions ranging from ecstatic elation to damning disappointment.

Not only does witnessing the unfolding of beauty, in the myriad of its forms and meanings feed your soul, it also serves as the type of fuel that you need to sustain your life’s work and vitality.  It’s important to consistently ask yourself: “Am I OK?”  As, being rooted in the NOW with your thoughts and feelings spurs optimal functioning.

Typically, you exude the type of presence which indicates an acute awareness of the feelings of other people as well as an innate receptiveness.  This is often misconstrued as an unabashed openness and you may be approached as such.  In cases like these, creating the proper boundaries and “owning” of energies between two people can’t be stressed enough.

Considering your elemental mix of earth and water and your temperamental synthesis of melancholic and phlegmatic, one of your reigning strengths lies in being both a “rock” and a vessel for others. Included in this box of resources is a generous offering of empathy, an unconditional listening response and the gift of vivid articulation of the language of the heart.  Because you’re able to excavate things from the often times crusty layers of the unconscious, it’s wise to staunchly protect your energy field. While others may be encouraged to lean on you, how heavily is a decision which has clear ramifications for you when it comes to your emotional health.

It also needs to be mentioned that when disordered, your private world carries the capability of being one not only of sheer serenity and pleasure, but also self-pity. One of the lessons you’re here to learn is that of identifying the differences between acknowledging, experiencing and DWELLING in your feelings. Even as a container, you require periodic release.

While it’s imperative for you to understand the “ebbs and flows of the tides”, how to  actively and consciously steer your ship from nostalgia to the now will prove to be a crucial part of navigating your psyche.

It can be easy for you to become stuck in the rut that says you must “keep it all together” for the sake of everyone else, but this is erroneous thinking.  Another growth catalyst is the recognition that living with the peace to which you aspire doesn’t equate with a disturbance free life. In fact, the very same forces that you deem as disruptive hold clues to something that needs to be corrected or adjusted in your life.

Metaphorically, if the “thud” of the burglar in our house in the middle of the night wasn’t heard or detected, there would be no sounding of the alarm, or the sense that someone wasn’t welcome. Thus, there would be no impetus to taking further action which could possibly save our lives.

You’re at your best when you confront your own disturbances and serve as a conduit to show others how to do the same. Projecting warmth and humanity, yet making the distinction as to where you end and where other people begin.

Aries Sun, Sagittarius Moon : “This Means You!”

Image result for women protesting

Your impact is felt through the sheer power of your ideas.  With a robust and fiery temperament, you would go to hell with gasoline drawers on and provide the match if this meant you were going to learn something meaningful from the experience.

This combination suggests a physical and intellectual daredevil who relishes the idea of going where no Woman or Man has gone before and testing the limits of one’s mind and will. To feel sustained, you need wide experience and daily opportunities toward the search of a “philosopher’s stone” that’s intensely personal to you.

It may serve you to find your center of moderation and understand when “enough is enough”. Understand that satisfaction is often a continuum rather than a colossal event. When you contemplate the smaller moment of magic in your life, the universe can open up to vaster possibilities. You’re not a lesser human being because you choose to take incremental steps on your life’s journey.

Mercury in Sagittarius

Mercury in Sagittarius suggests that one’s needs to think and communicate are broad based and telescopic. This placement is illustrative of intellectual fire and a passion for weaving ideas together in service of creating a holistic worldview.  Conversationally, the goal is to ask thought provoking questions which will elevate the nature of the discussion. Problems occur when one would rather appear as the “guru” with all of the answers rather than someone who understands the ultimate uncertainty of what we actually think we know.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon

The blend of social harmony and purposeful, ambitious undertakings.

To be viewed by society as a “good” person,i.e. someone who is generally fair, kind and humane is what fuels your life force. You want to be well-liked and structure communication with others on the basis of building bridges of understanding rather than raising points of contention.

What makes you feel alive is knowing that you’re continually refining the art of human interaction and you improve upon this through a sincere interest in people. Being in your presence makes others feel understood and listened to.

Life structure is one of your primary emotional needs. You need to know that no matter what you’re “going somewhere”. An organized plan of action and personal development has the potential to nourish your desire to achieve in a tangible way. Having something to show for your discipline and efforts is a must.

What needs to be understood is that in the midst of life  “business”, everyone may not walk away from the table happy. You will find yourself in situations where practical decisions may have to trump social relationships.

Your cordiality and diplomacy is in no way designed to offset your need to deal with the bottom line or bare bones of a situation. In fact, it’s purpose is to smooth out what may otherwise be rough terrain when you’re the bearer of unpleasant news.

On the flip side, with your potential to lead and manage you’re being called to display a “personal impersonality”. Never losing the human touch, yet distancing yourself enough as to not allow relationships to hold you hostage.

You are being challenged to remain resolute in your decision making. Holding fast to your logic and integrity while avoiding the traps of flailing in the whirlwind of the social approval scale. Often, you may feel like you have to decide between being true to your principles or being “liked”.

Remember that those who are genuine will respect your firmness and you only had the illusory approval of people who would want to revoke it because of decisions they happen to disagree with.

Your vitality is fueled through the enjoyment of the senses and optimally, your life is experienced at an earthy and tangible level. What you can immediately and decidedly “put your hands on” serves as a reliable  barometer of authenticity.

In addition, you need to feel like everything is “right where it should be” in your life. Not so much of an exact equal balance, but like a recipe, in a proportion that pleases you and is agreeable to your life goals.  You’re nourished through an orientation to the “other”.  Rarely frightened by opposing points of view, you’re more likely to seek understanding as to use your newly discovered insights as a means to develop a more congruent self.

Your lens for processing experience is one of a teaching and learning orientation. Everything is approached in a manner which questions and seeks meaning with the goal of placing things into a larger context in order to soak up holistic understanding . You relish at the thought of life as an ever broadening  panorama. Your world is looked at telescopically and opportunities to incorporate eclecticism are frequently sought.

Establishing the type of grounding which will support a bold and fearless dive into the larger social arena is key.

Mercury-Neptune Aspects

When interpreting aspects in one’s birth chart, it’s important to keep in mind that for every constructive and helpful potential, there’s a dysfunctional and maladaptive one. The relationship between Mercury and Neptune provides an excellent example.  As we investigate the planetary archetypes, we come to realize that Mercury is the thinker and the communicator. It’s associated with our perception, information exchange, speech and our rational mind.

Neptune, on the other hand, is the archetype of all things which are nebulous and can’t be clearly defined. The planetary energy is slippery, and simultaneously enchanting and deceptive.  Ideals, escapism and lack of boundaries also fall in the Neptunian realm.

So, what type of potentials exist when these two meet up in the birth chart?  On the constructive side, there’s potential  for the flowing of the left-brain, right-brain connection. An affinity with symbols can be present and in turn, creates a strength in deciphering languages which speak to the collective in broad and universal terms like film, music, astrology, poetry, etc…  One’s speech may be refined and from the intellectual standpoint they may be able to tune into subtleties that others miss. When this aspect is working, there’s a definite power of suggestion at play. In fact, this is the same suggestion that advertisers use to “tune into” what their audience wants (or what they think they want).

There’s also a talent for understanding how ideas are interconnected which can give a person a great sense of rhythm and flow and the capacity to communicate ideas to others which reflect idealism and inspire creative activity.  A visionary with the sensitivity of mind to tap into what makes people tick and assist and heal in the subterranean realms would be a great use of this aspect.

On the other side of things, there can be a penchant for lying by omission in one’s communication, “double talk” and delusional thinking.  The maladaptive side of  this aspect can manifest as someone who is able to permeate the thought processes of others, but uses it for designs that are less than honorable, such as those that participate in the “brainwashing” process.

Taurus South Node, Scorpio North Node

Image result for in depth

When we seek to investigate the Taurus-Scorpio nodal axis, its ruling planets, Venus and Mars immediately come to mind.  Venus rules Taurus and Mars rules Scorpio (Pluto also shares affinity with Scorpio.)

With this axis, the quest to integrate life’s pleasures with the mentality of a warrior and an investigator, steps out to the forefront. To use these nodes effectively (i.e. to advance one’s interests) an honest acknowledgement of how one’s physical and psychological needs require synthesis needs to happen. In other words, an exploration of life based on the premise that there’s more than meets the eye, is of paramount importance.

Although good, solid “common sense” is held dear, the shift must be made to incorporate all of the senses as informants when it comes to one’s internal and external world. This particular nodal axis seeks to merge the Venus and Mars ruled archetypes into a functional relationship, and this requires attention and concerted effort. With the Taurus South Node, one is well-versed and familiar with peace, creative comforts and the overall enjoyment of life. With Scorpio in the picture, the desire to penetrate mysteries, pierce veils and get below the surface is so thick it can be cut with a knife.

The education within these nodes is multidimensional. The first facet of instruction is that anything that’s worth digging for takes effort, and this includes the journey within ourselves. There’s a big question contained in this nodal axis, and it centers around complacency, which can be masked as serenity.

Picture yourself walking down the street and making eye contact with someone, and they don’t know what to really say or do, so they flash a half-hearted, plastic grin your way. This can pass as a “greeting”, but we all know it’s not authentic. Your job is to penetrate until you get to the truth, no matter what it is.

One of the most important things that one needs to learn where the Taurus/Scorpio nodes are concerned is that just because something is enjoyable doesn’t mean there’s more authenticity involved, and how you measure the amount of worth and value something or someone has in your life shouldn’t necessarily be based on how many good feelings emerge as a result of your association.

This is not to say that your life shouldn’t be enjoyed,  However, the universe is asking you to achieve a more complete satisfaction at a different level. In fact, this is a shift, where you’re being asked to move from your “comfort” to being a leading value and restoring gut-level truth and authenticity as a priority.

Reading between the lines is a faculty that needs to be developed. This may not feel good, but it’s essential to understand that a certain amount of anxiety (while not in excessive form) can serve as an instrument to further investigation of people and phenomena which can yield sharper and more acute analysis.

The Taurus-Scorpio nodal axis is about the reclamation of your fighting spirit. In many cases, the Moon is the “go to” when security and safety is being discussed, but Venus, the ruler of Taurus makes a compelling case as well.  If anything, it’s a branch of the same tree because it’s associated with all that we find pleasurable.

With this nodal arrangement in one’s birth chart, one must proceed in life with the correct definition of intimacy.  It can’t be stressed enough that to be intimate with something or someone is to know that thing or person VERY WELL. However, this doesn’t necessarily suggest COMFORT with whatever or whomever is revealed.

While your accommodating tendencies can be a source of familiarity, your true growth centers around moving away from interpreting human behavior strictly through the lens of face value and integrating psychological and investigative savvy which will allow you to ferret out deeper motives than simply how someone presents a situation.

Taurus is associated with creating and adding value while Scorpio is related to penetrating and arriving at the core. If you’re successful at combining these two, you can embrace living a deeper and richer existence because you’ll ENJOY seeing through all of the bullshit that’s presented to all of us on a daily basis. You can find PLEASURE in being a person who has taken the time and effort to be well-informed and won’t be duped or lied to any longer.

Mars, the planetary ruler of Scorpio is about risk, among other things. While it’s easy to be captivated and attracted to appearances, the “simple” and the “natural” may also be devices which prey on your naivete. It’s important to take the severing of some relationships as par for the course when you attempt to shift from pleasure to depth penetration. That’s not for the faint of heart and those who don’t wish to upgrade their relationship with you based on your continued growth won’t be in your circle for very long.

Essentially, what you’re doing is re-framing your view of personal power, which is an important piece to your nodal puzzle. All of the things that we’re told are sinful and that we shouldn’t have our hands in, you’re being summoned to explore: SEX, power ( who has it, how it’s acquired, used and distributed), politics ( from the governmental level down to the corporate office), “deviance”, crime and the underworld. Your question to yourself needs to be: what am I learning about myself through this exploration?

You may find that instead of dividing the world into “saints and sinners” that you’re able to reconcile both dynamics within yourself, along with a host of others, so the need to project these potentials on others is eliminated. If this is the case, you’re on the right track.

Your nodal story discards the narrative of “goodness” and “badness” and honors wholeness.
