Aquarius Sun, Aquarius Moon : “Rather Unique”

(photo : pic2fly.com)

During a recent conversation, I said that I think  the word “normal” has become a code word for “just like me”.  “Why can’t you just do things the normal way?” Why can’t you get a “normal” job? Why can’t you have a NORMAL relationship?

This seems to better known as: “why can’t you do things as I do them? (Or, at least in a way that doesn’t cause any discomfort on my part?)

When people are questioned in this manner, it leads me to draw the conclusion that often, there’s an underlying anxiety in being exposed to those who want to individuate. There’s somehow a sneaking suspicion that if YOU happily follow your natural inclinations, then MY internal guilt, and possibly some cowardice will be exposed for tightly toeing the line of social convention on everything imaginable.

The placement of both the Sun and Moon in Aquarius suggests that the individuals life force is fueled through channels and experiences which allow them to exercise freedom to discover and be themselves.

It’s fruitful for double Aquarians to be exposed to environments which will allow them to examine and question social conventions and ideas surrounding “normalcy”. With both the luminaries carrying Uranian influence, the conclusion may be that normal is a spectrum, or range more so than some humdrum destination we should all aspire to.

Essentially, the Sun represents our life energy and the Moon symbolizes the manner in which we can be most emotionally fulfilled.

With this blend, they’re headed in the same direction. The avant garde and unconventional assist one in “shining” and self-realization while there’s a hunger for rebellion against society’s “one size fits all” assumptions.

There’s a reigning need to stretch boundaries and push the envelope on WHY certain styles of life, careers, sexual orientations, and relationships are “best for everyone.”

The curious thing about this combination is this: while there’s the intense questioning of the status quo, there’s also the underlying belief that everyone “doing their own thing” will benefit the masses more than all of these stuffy, stodgy controls and regulations.

Your blend suggests a humanitarian streak, a champion of the people along with broad and strong views about where the world is headed. You require structure, or a “container” for these ideals.

That’s why Aquarius has TWO rulers. Uranus and Saturn.

Saturn’s co- rulership of Uranus says: “look, I know you want to be yourself and you want humanity to aspire toward individuation, and all of that good stuff, and certainly that’s your right, but there are LIMITS and BOUNDARIES to all of this.” In fact,, there’s a responsible, mature (saturn) way to express your individuality (Uranus). There are laws that need to be taken into consideration. What type of society would we have if everyone just wend buckwild?

Just like “normal” can be a spectrum, so can “authority”.

Authority doesn’t have to be something that you’re hopelessly bowing down to;  defeated and on your knees. Compromising and working with others can be a win-win. It rests on your ability to humanize individuals. Remembering that they contain a heart and soul. If you simultaneously “love humanity” and “despise people”, the road ahead of you may be a tough one indeed.

Scorpio Sun, Sagittarius Moon:”You Can’t Stop The Prophet”

You will travel boundlessly until you gather enough understanding to satiate your expansive thirst. There’s an emotional need to have your life philosophy and opinions respected.

Personal freedom is your nourishment and depth of feeling is the target. Your crusades range from the high minded, professorial gleam of enlightenment to the murky seediness of the freak nasty- and you don’t give a damn. To you: it’s all education.

You must venture far and wide to gain penetrating perceptions of the world and its inhabitants.

The fuel you require is connected to an intensely personal passion to reflect high ideals and principles. However, one of your biggest challenges is to discern objective truth from the evangelical fervor which may guide you in examining issues that hit “close to home.”

Your gut-level emotions can serve you as an anchor like guiding force, or lead you astray into a brooding, dismal abyss.

Your personality reflects a super charged optimism into the universe which is tempered with a streetwise recognition that you’re “really not in Kansas anymore.”

Aries Sun, Aquarius Moon: Featuring Rah Digga’s “Angela Davis”

“Radical simply means grasping things at the root.” – Angela Davis

When thinking about this Sun-Moon blend, one of the first things that came to my mind was lyrics to Rah Digga’s track “Angela Davis”, which i feel embodies the spirit of this planetary combo:

” I’m Angela Davis, I ain’t shakin’ my buns…. I’m yellin’ power to the people and wavin’ them guns. I be pumpin’ that fist, I ain’t runnin’ from shit, it ain’t too many of you broads that got the stomach for this.”

At your core, your aspirations are centered around having a strong and immediate impact on the world. The urges which stem from your deepest emotions are those which prompt you to individuate and differentiate.

In order to be truly fulfilled, you have to grasp your uniqueness at the root. According to Angela Davis’ definition, this qualifies you as radical.

For you, the mainstream’s  notions of  “how you’re supposed to be” feel like trappings. In order to locate the ultimate in personal authenticity, certain societal and cultural norms must be shed completely, or at least brought into alignment with your progressively unfolding identity.

“Leader of the resistance, and it’s only for the thick-skinned…”

You aren’t for everyone, and choose to involve yourself in a world which welcomes shocks and shakeups for the greater good. However, it’s important to be able to distinguish between using your gut instincts to fearlessly guide you and taking foolhardy risks which have no end game in mind.

Focus and direction of the revolutionary within is a key concept which you need to master in order to unearth your full potential.

Working in an underdeveloped state, you leap before you look and may find yourself exhibiting knee-jerk responses and doing regular damage control to situations you’ve created due to both your impatience and an insatiable need to view any and all action as progress.

While you may be, as Rah Digga states: “In your all black floatin’ through the matrix”, it’s important to understand that there are times to assert yourself, and also situations where a retreat doesn’t mean you’ve lost, rather it simply illustrates a period of rest where you marshal and concentrate your forces in order to fight another day.

The fuel of fiery self-assertion is reflected in a personality which has an emotional need for stability and to conserve one’s resources, as to be prepared for and equal to the challenges that identity development brings.

Element wise, we have a combination of fire and earth. Concerning modalities, the initiating cardinal and sustaining fixed energies permeate this blend.  It’s said that when we travel the zodiac, the sign that follows has the “answer” to the preceding sign.

In the case of Aries and Taurus, this provides the endurance to finish what one starts.

Aries specializes in beginnings, spearheading and enterprising, while Taurus provides a structure and creates value out of what was initiated.

With this blend, one must seek out opportunities to test one’s courage and intestinal fortitude. In most cases, this consists of taking  a variety of risks.  Simultaneously, the developmental tools to curb impulsiveness and provide the necessary calculations are firmly in place.

It’s important to note that fear can be healthy in some instances as long as one’s capacity for action doesn’t become immobilized allowing paralysis or unhealthy inertia, based on complacency to prevail.

This is the Warrior song.

Moon-Venus Contacts in Synastry : “It’s a Love Thing”

moonvenus

As a counseling Astrologer, when writing about synastry, which surveys relationship potential and compatibility  between two people (as suggested by their birth charts), one of my main responsibilities is to be an “opener of doors” and an interpreter of potentials and possibilities. No narrative between two individuals is a static, fixed one.

Advancing the art of synastry requires creativity, and a  far-seeing telescopic lens devoid of the “by rote” recitation of familiar and stale scenarios which couldn’t revive themselves even using the most powerful set of defibrillators.

In addressing issues surrounded by compatibility, our birth charts serve as a basis, foundation or a tool.  Then, the people breathe life into it, catapulting themselves off the paper into real-time, as to honor and support the unfolding human being.

Let’s take a journey into the realm of the Moon and Venus. These two planetary archetypes are firmly rooted in Astrology’s “intimacy network.”  Let’s make no mistake: they can be great friends and cohabitants, symbolizing a cozy synthesis of both what we WANT and what we NEED.

When Moon-Venus contacts are experienced between two people, there’s a GRAND OPPORTUNITY to create a “safe space” or a “heavenly haven”, if you will.  A place where you both enjoy the company of one another and there’s potential for an airtight trust that’s built on a keen emotional understanding and the desire of both partners to be in tune with one another’s innermost needs. The relationship possesses a heart barometer that each person checks frequently out of immense concern for the other.

The home and hearth are something to be cherished here, and the meanings travel far beyond the mundane “brick and mortar” definition. When it comes to the nurturing of the union between partners, a spirit of mutual cooperation can be present in service of furthering a heartfelt and erotic bond. Whether you’re a Woman or a Man in the relationship, these contacts suggest a deep and genuine appreciation for feminine principles: receptive, yielding and containing energy which is open to intuitive insights, emotional memory and the welcoming of sensitivity with open arms.

In Robert Augustus Masters’ work entitled “Emotional Intimacy: A Comprehensive Guide For Connecting With The Power of Your Emotions“, he gives an outline of some factors in synergistic combination which constitute emotional intimacy. Here are five which illustrate Moon-Venus contacts working at an optimal level:

(1) Being sufficiently well acquainted with our emotions so that when one arises, we recognize it, can name it, and acknowledge what we’re doing with it.

(2) Relating TO our emotions rather than just FROM our emotions, so that we neither fuse with nor dissociate from them

(3) Listening to others deeply, both to what’s being said and what’s NOT being said.

(4) Remaining emotionally transparent and non-defensively expressive of whatever is arising in us, be it pleasant or unpleasant.

(5) Being FULLY vulnerable.

Ladies and gentlemen, of course there’s a flip side to these dynamics, which holds the possibility of operating in quite a dysfunctional manner.

An appropriate culinary comparison to the Moon and Venus would be comfort food and sweets. Both, when consumed and enjoyed in moderation, don’t necessarily have detrimental, long-term effects. However, overdoing it is a different story. One could easily conjure up a scenario where both partners are racking their brains to come up with the last time they actually participated in a meaningful activity as an independent entity. In fact, that whole phrase sounds foreign and perplexing.

Oddly enough, when suffering from he stupor  that sugar shock brings on, all the partners can locate is 15 to 20 extra pounds and remnants of an expired gym membership. What was once healthy interdependence has now morphed into insatiable attachment hunger. The fulfillment which results from adult sharing has now given way to the fussiness and temper tantrums reflecting infantile behavior.

Like any other contacts in synastry, much depends on the attitudes, maturity and focus of the people involved; with the emphasis being not so much on whether the aspects are cast as “harmonious” or “inharmonious”, but rather uncovering, through a wide open quest, the most constructive potentials for operation of the planets in question.

Leo Sun, Leo Moon: Featuring Gang Starr’s “Royalty”

With this Sun-Moon blend we have an individual who is spurred on through a royal personal presence and an emotional need for validation of one’s special attributes. For this person Life is about standing out and letting one’s essence shine for all the world to see. At this astrological intersection, the potential for a charismatic aura and warmth and generosity of heart meet. Take a good look at Guru sitting in his chair with that air of dignified authority. That’s an illustration of what double Leo’s are trying to grow into.

Peep some of the lyrics:

“Supreme exalted, universal leader
Descendent of the kings and queens, the overseer
The overlord, cream of the crop, creme de la creme…..”

“Wherever you are Baby Pah, realize that your essence
is divine son, and let it shine son,as we refine son, aiyyo, this shit’ll blow your mind son, we’re royalty.”

And the Chorus?

“Wherever I go
I want to take nothin’ less than the best
Whatever I choose, I choose to do
I have to stand out from all the rest…….”

Moon-Uranus Contacts in Synastry: “Electric Relaxation”

kandtphoto: “ Classic hip hop right here ”

When thinking about this combination, one of the first thoughts that popped into my head was A Tribe Called Quest’s hip-hop classic: “Electric Relaxation.”

The archetype of Uranus shocks. It’s electric. Uranus symbolizes anything that’s progressive, unconventional, avant-garde, or just plain outside of the box.

The Moon is the most instinctive side of ourselves. It’s where we relax; where we feel ‘at home” in our most natural state. Also, the Moon symbolizes our deepest emotional needs.

When Moon-Uranus contacts exist between two individuals in the birth chart, there’s potential for a high voltage attraction.

Partners may feel comfortable and safe with the other because of their joint aims at individuation. This energy can be used to intensify a shared commitment toward each person pursuing their unique brand of genius. In this safe haven, “weird” is a compliment and “strange” is just a seven letter word.

Moon-Uranus potential, when developed constructively, can assist in the construction of a comfortable space for two people to honor and appreciate their quirks. The normality of personalities is not so much in question, but society’s model for normalcy is.

Central themes which will emerge at some time or another focus around a “custom made’ relationship. How THIS couple has chosen to live versus the mainstream’s promotion of “what’s good for everyone”. Maybe there’s no white picket fence, no two car garage or yearly ski trips to the same resort.

Maybe one person is from Nairobi and the other from Paducah, Kentucky, and they share a common interest in Astrology or Tarot Cards.Maybe the relationship defies the often tightly constructed boxes of race, culture, or gender. Whatever the case may be, this combination screams: “We want to break free from societal trappings, create our own relationship, and we can support each other in those efforts.”

On the flip side, Uranian energy is erratic and unpredictable. It’s rebellious. It can take freedom to a whole new level by streaking from end zone to end zone butt-naked during an NFL game.

It may very well be that the minute that things get “moony” and cozy, one person feels the need to suddenly break away. Therefore the on again, off again : ” I can’t quit you” set up is launched into high gear.

Eventually, it begins to eat away at the emotional health of both parties and they cease to be less than their best. The unhappy ending could be two people who are as scared of intimacy as they are of being ordinary. That’s a waste of this dynamic combination.

If you share these contacts with someone, you play a major part in the writing of the script.

What will your pen produce?

Capricorn Sun, Taurus Moon

When I think about the Capricorn Sun, Taurus Moon combination, both the image and idea of blue chip stocks comes to mind.

The reason why people to choose to invest in these stocks and the energy which provides stimulus to earth signs are very similar: a reputation for quality, stability, maturity and a steadiness which can withstand dips between high and low in both the economy and life in general. Essentially, this Sun-Moon blend is stationed on solid ground.

In a birth chart, when the Sun is placed in Capricorn and the Moon in Taurus, the individual is fueled by making things happen in an authoritative capacity. Managing, directing and controlling. Straight up running the show, whether this is from an external point of view as a CEO or an internal focus of self-mastery.

In this placement, the life energy is geared toward leading by example and bearing the standard of integrity and responsibility, which means aligning thoughts, words and actions consistently as well as responding to the life conditions that one has created in a constructive manner. There’s also a motivation to achieve and receive status and recognition for one’s accomplishments which have come as a result of hard work, discipline and perseverance.

Capricorn energy lends itself toward having the patience in order to climb even the highest mountain to the pinnacle of success. They don’t just want to show up to the party, they want to be the best. In their mind, if they were going to be average, they could’ve just stayed at home.

As reflected by the Taurus Moon, this individuals emotional and personality needs are to uphold the status quo. To infuse a familiarity into the state of affairs. This is because once they’ve found a “formula” for certain ways of doing and being, they prefer to stick with what works.

As a matter of fact, the bull finds a certain beauty in this simplicity. Nothing fancy, just the appreciation of the sensual pleasures of life, building and maintaining financial and spiritual wealth.

The desire for Taurean comfort also stems from it’s correlation to safety. if one stays in the realm of the known, then there’s a greater likelihood that the more unfamiliar elements of life which disturb predictability can be kept at arms length. Unfortunately, more value is often placed on having the situation remain the same rather than if it’s actually favorable or unfavorable.

It may help individuals with this Sun-Moon blend to possibly reframe their ideas about what constitutes true security. To consider that the process of change holds just as much potential to transform and enrich life as it does to harm or disturb it.

Also, just because we may have committed to a particular plan or focus in the past doesn’t mean that we’re hopelessly bound to traveling in that direction. We have the freedom to shift as situational and environmental factors reveal themselves.

Strategies can be elastic. You’re capable diversify your portfolio of life options.

Just because a certain system “works” doesn’t mean that it’s going to continue to. After all, people and times have a way of changing, and too much riding on the waves of the familiar can certainly create the element of inertia, which is formally defined as:

” A property of matter by which it remains at rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted on by some external force.”

This Sun-Moon combination can work most optimally by taking calculated risks and employing flexible strategies for living.  By periodic assessments of their operational methods. Evaluating based on their effectiveness rather than their familiarity.

I’ve been a fan of Hip Hop Artist A.Z. ever since he made his debut on Nas’ “Illmatic” album. Right here, he’s collaborated with the eclectic producer Rodney Hazard on the track “Vintage”, which captures the spirit of this Sun/Moon blend. Please enjoy:

The 411: The individual with this Sun-Moon blend is fueled by challenging social conventions and breaking free from unhealthy trappings which have taken root as a result of social and cultural conditioning. The stimulus for this person is the resistance of the status quo in service of progressive and forward movement. A humanistic and futuristic outlook. The personality needs to be respected for it’s broad knowledge and comprehensive worldview. Also, for it’s ability to grasp universal principles and weave them into a useful life philosophy.

Victim Status: Embracing dogma. Putting in a billion dollar bid for ownership of the “truth”.Becoming a rebel without a cause and being “different” just for the sake of it. Asinine rebellion which only views non-conformity through a cosmetic lens as opposed to one geared toward healthy individuation consisting of productive actions and behavior. Do as I say, but don’t you dare do as I DO.

Victor Status: Educating others on the meaning of authentic freedom through humanitarian efforts and example. Allowing others to form their own philosophy of life and truths contained therein, Grasping an all encompassing worldview. Using rebellious energy to shake off the shackles of inhibition.
