Leo Sun, Cancer Moon

One of your foremost life lessons is this:

To radiate your exuberant life energy, it’s a necessity that you be secure within yourself and surroundings. A firm foundation, whether operating through connection to biological family, supportive friends or a spiritual connection to your ancestral lineage is essential to your ability to creatively express the uniqueness that is YOU.

With this Sun/Moon combination, there’s a potential for both of the “lights” or luminaries to operate at their fullest capacity: shining and reflecting. This blend suggests the potential to hold a large vision for yourself while simultaneously fostering and nurturing growth in others you’re close to.

You thrive on intimate connections. Not only one on one, but also with the world at large on the stage of public attention. Sooner or later, you’ll have to balance the need for inward seeking solitude and being outwardly celebrated.

Love, peace and happiness  could very well describe your life’s motto:

Love for yourself and the authentic person you’re unfolding into, peace of mind and heart knowing that you’re emotionally secure and there’s no looming threat in your life which wreaks havoc on your vulnerability, and happiness with the manner in which you’re able to play, enjoy life and express your creative gifts.

These are coded instructions for your fulfillment.

With their use, you could very well find an optimal way of operating which aligns beautifully with your aspirations.

This sun/moon combination can yield both rich emotional responses and inventive ideological breakthroughs if you allow it.

Your life energy is rooted in aspirations of uplifting the human family, while heart strings pull you toward the security typically found in tribe and clan. It’s clear to you that overall change which entails dislodging from the status quo gets your blood pumping, but you also wish to have a safe and solid base from which to operate.

Futuristic thought is no stranger to you and the ability to maintain empathy and the common touch serves as a bonus to your character. At times, you may find yourself battling between choosing what’s familiar and habitual versus what you define as “progress”.

One of the keys to navigating this blend is to understand that advancement is something which is highly personal and custom made. While you wish to “evolve”, trusting your own level of personal fulfillment instead of searching for a universally accepted definition of evolution may address your needs more effectively. In addition, all of the “bells and whistles” typically associated with “modern” life, may or may NOT be suitable for you, depending on the situation.

Within your heart and psyche lies the potential for a depth of creativity which stems from the image laden realms of emotional memory, as well as scientific thinking. You can also move crowds, maintain mass appeal and remain accessible and responsive in more intimate situations.

Shining as a visionary, you have the goods to honor and use your past as a guidepost, or internal map to create the changes which will nourish your heart and provide your mind with the stimulation that it needs.

I’m going to be bold and blunt here.

In order to retrieve the “gold” of  selfhood, you’re going to have to dig deep.

This Sun-Moon blend suggests dynamic and developmental tension between self-expression and self-protection.

There’s a difference between creating an alternate route for the sake of emotional safety and erecting an impenetrable fortress of the heart because of fears associated with losing control.

Working with this dynamic combination of solar heat and emotional intensity will likely clue you in to the nuances which exist between those two extremes.

There’s a emphatic need to mine the subconscious to get to the root of all of your ugly “stuff” as a means of total self-acceptance. The road to discovering your personal identity may sometimes be paved with swirling, tumultuous feelings which you would rather keep out of public view.

If you don’t know what your true motivations are, it’s more difficult to arrive at your destination successfully, so there’s a suggestion inherent in this blend that you will turn over every rock, stone and pebble of your mind  to see what lies beneath. The master peeler of the layers of the psyche.

On some level, you’re also nourished through penetrating interactions with others which yield the same feelings of the fire in the belly. You know very intimately that you must have the knowledge of the heart to claim the throne.

The rabbit hole you travel may be ripe and rampant with what you wish to avoid, but meeting the challenges of navigating crisis assists you in gaining a shining picture of everything you can be.

Your impact is felt through the sheer power of your ideas.  With a robust and fiery temperament, you would go to hell with gasoline drawers on and provide the match if this meant you were going to learn something meaningful from the experience.

This combination suggests a physical and intellectual daredevil who relishes the idea of going where no Woman or Man has gone before and testing the limits of one’s mind and will. To feel sustained, you need wide experience and daily opportunities toward the search of a “philosopher’s stone” that’s intensely personal to you.

It may serve you to find your center of moderation and understand when “enough is enough”. Understand that satisfaction is often a continuum rather than a colossal event. When you contemplate the smaller moment of magic in your life, the universe can open up to vaster possibilities. You’re not a lesser human being because you choose to take incremental steps on your life’s journey.

” We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own or to other people’s models, learn to be ourselves, and allow our natural channel to open.”
-Shakti Gawain

When the combination of the Sun in Aquarius and the Moon in Leo is contained in a birth chart, a quest toward a sense of personal authenticity coupled with the need to creatively express one’s true individuality, and receive validation for their essential identity, emerge as major themes.

All of us have a niche, or a thumbscrew. An ability or talent which we can cultivate within ourselves and excel at like no one in this entire world. After these gifts have been strengthened and refined internally, there comes a stage when it’s time to share them with the outside world for our own benefit as well as that of the masses.

If we’re not connected to our Sun sign, our vitality suffersIn our birth chart, the Sun symbolizes our life force and our gravitational center. If the light isn’t being used, the all of the other planets within the chart hold the possibility of remaining obscure and in the dark.

The Sun’s symbol is a simple, yet exceedingly profound one. A circle with a dot in the center. The circle illustrates the vast, infinite quality of the universe and the dot symbolizes the place that we carve out for ourselves in the cosmos. The specifics are up to us.

Our life energy and what fuels us are represented by the Sun.Ultimately, if we’re going to legitimately share our light with the world, we must be true to our Sun sign.

The Sun in Aquarius suggests that the type fuel needed to assist your engine in running at maximum capacity consists of having the freedom to “pour out water” which contains a revolutionary, reformist energy.

Change and new ideas are the stimulus which activate your being. Embracing and developing your uniqueness and living on your own terms without feeling that there’s always some “authority” in the midst to whom you must conform keeps your juices flowing. If there’s a trend or standard, it’s going to be set by YOU.

Enter the Moon.

The Moon doesn’t possess it’s own light, rather it’s a reflection of the Sun. This applies both astronomically as well as symbolically.

The Moon in Leo borrows the Aquarian Sun’s light and energy in order to create a personality form. The lunar needs are then expressed through the individual.

What nourishes a Leo Moon?  Recognition and validation of the unique self. Honor, praise
and acceptance of the person they’ve become. Royalty dwells within the spirit of the Moon in Leo and in order to be fulfilled, they require this acknowledgement on some level.

One of the keys to integrating this combination is to artfully maintain and preserve that genuine place within your heart where you store your uniqueness, while simultaneously offering it as a gift to free humanity from it’s self-imposed limits. THAT’s a win-win.

Scorpio Sun, Aquarius Moon, Capricorn Rising

Orange & Blue Head Circle

The core life energy of the Scorpio Sun consists of controlling your environment through knowing about people and things. Information and knowledge is power. The need of your psyche is to pierce and penetrate deeply via passionate involvement with life’s enigmas.

Intense interactions which result in some form of personal  transformation are essential to the maintenance and expression of your vital force. One of your fundamental desires is to unearth root causes and you don’t flinch at the dark side of human nature or anything labeled by society as unacceptable or taboo.

The Aquarian Moon uses the light of the Scorpio Sun to give form to a personality whose foremost emotional needs center around individuation and resistance to the status quo.

You’re nourished by humanitarian service in the form of challenging cultural norms and freeing yourself from convention. Freedom and the right to live according to your own dictates is what sustains you.

For optimum fulfillment, your identity thrust into the world must be authoritative. The Capricorn rising lens that filters your worldview suggests an life approach of administration and ambition.

Devising strategies to make things happen in a way which reflects hard work and planning as tools for your accomplishments. It’s also suggested that you wish to present the face of integrity to the world, meaning an undivided individual in thought, word and deed who takes responsibility for their life creations.

A Holistic Perspective on Astrology

Black Gold Head Circle (1)

“‎Wholeness and longing are as common as breath, so much a part of the fabric of our being they often remain unseen. They meet us everywhere, setting direction, not detail. All we do is answer their call. The shapes we build about them become a life lived, unique in time.”
 – Michael Bratnick

In a recent conversation regarding relationship compatibility throughout the zodiac, I made the comment that true astrological chemistry cannot be determined solely on the basis of sun signs. An in depth analysis of both individual’s birth charts is required.

In response to my comment, the question I received was: “What entire chart?”  I am now here to supplement my original response by providing an answer which is more comprehensive.

Depending on your level of interest and or expertise in astrology, you may or may not know that an entire birth chart exists for every human being.  YES, we are becoming a Gemini, or a Pisces as our “signs” (also known as sun signs) indicate.

However, in our chart we also have placements for: the moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune and pluto. In addition, we have an Ascendant, or rising sign.

All of these planets serve their function toward our ultimate aim of wholeness.

In fact, one could view the planets as subpersonalities operating within our psyche. So, when we speak of : “a part of us wanting to go out to the “Rock The Bells” concertbut another part of us wanting to stay home.”what we are essentially experiencing is the polarity of the various drives which exist in our mental framework.

Our whole birth chart is a symbolic tool box filled with planetary expressions to suit all occasions. These subpersonalities assist us in transitioning through the myriad of roles that we’re asked to play.

Most likely, we may need to exhibit behavior that is professional and more formal when we venture into our work settings. We also may tend to be more relaxed and casual when at home. When in the company of good friends, or intimately involved with a partner, we display yet another dimension of our personalities.

The essential purpose of our birth charts as a whole is to integrate all of these energies in order that they may function more effectively as a process of synthesis.

The whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.  Once we become aware that these sub-personalities are at work within our psyches, we activate the possibility of organizing them into our own celestial government,  As a result of this fusion, our entire birth chart actually becomes a new, more powerful entity with its blended expression manifesting through the vessel, which is our sun signs.

The Players
So, who are these subpersonalities that I speak of? As stated earlier, we not only have a “sign” or sun sign, but we have several other planetary energies operating within our birth charts: we have a moon sign, mercury sign, venus sign, mars sign, jupiter sign, saturn sign, uranus sign, neptune sign and pluto sign.  Below, I have listed some brief notes on the planets and key themes that are associated with them:

Sun: our core, the ingredients that comprise our ego, what we consider to be important, our life force, vitality, where we “shine”, our pride, life purpose and destination. The type of fuel we require to maintain our vitality.

The planets show you what energies are prevalent. The signs show you how these energies tend to express themselves, and the houses illustrate where in your life you will most likely experience the manifestation of these energies.

Note: The outer planets, which are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move very slowly. Therefore, their sign positions are generational. Everyone born within roughly a 7 year period will have the same Uranus sign. Everyone born within roughly a 14 year period will have the same Neptune sign and everyone born within roughly a 21 year period will have thesame Pluto sign. In most cases, the house placement and the aspects of these planets to our personal planets will be of more significance than the sign placement.

The next time someone asks you “what’s your sign?” hopefully, you will be armed with the information to tell them that your sun sign is Virgo, but….. that’s not ALL that you are. That is not enough to encompass the complexity and multifaceted character of your being.

Ultimately, the ideal personality as expressed by our birth charts, is a balanced set of subpersonalities in which each subpersonality is strong and it’s particular talents fully developed.

I wish everyone well on their infinite quest for understanding.

The Importance of Taking Responsibility For Our Birth Charts

Turquoise Purple Seal (1)

“In practice, the humanistic astrologer studies (perceives) the birth chart aesthetically rather than ethically, first as a whole and then in terms of its individual factors.

Nothing in the birth-chart is seen as good or bad, fortunate or unfortunate; humanistic astrology recognizes no evil planets or bad signs. It considers all astrological factors as having a place in all things; everything is good when in its place in the eternal scheme of things and in relation to everything else. From this approach, the birth-chart is a set of instructions for the actualization of one’s potential.”
-Michael R. Meyer

Whenever I speak with people about Astrology, I always make it a point to let them know how strongly I feel about self-responsibility. Astrology is a profound art and a wonderful tool for self- discovery.

It’s extremely important to remember that everything has a purpose within our birth charts. It’s pertinent that we accept and “make friends” with our celestial maps. Coming to grips with our cosmic blueprints enables us to work with the energies that are present at the highest, most evolved levels.

If we refuse to “own” our charts, at worst, the issues surrounding the parts that we reject will come to visit us in another form. Or, they will be projected onto friends and intimates.

It may help us tremendously to remember that there are both productive and unproductive expressions for every planet, signhouse and aspect. If we truly want to take travel the high road, it’s ours for the taking and is waiting for us.

Let’s make a comparison to our physical body: suppose that we don’t like our arms. For whatever reason we’re not pleased with their shape, tone, etc… Even though this may be the case, we’re probably not going to deny the reality that we have two arms. In fact, we may even start to work to improve their condition.

With our birth charts, it fails to work to our advantage when we’re a Gemini and we spend all day dreaming about becoming a Scorpio. Or, we feverishly try to repress our Moon in Virgo telling ourselves that it’s in the late degrees, so “it’s really more Libran”.

We must remember to accept the raw material that we’re presented with, mold it to our satisfaction and create our own masterpiece.

Trusting our judgement and having faith in our ability to become the authors of our lives assisted by the tools of astrology can definitely create an atmosphere that will strikingly enhance the quality of our lives and those around us.

Venus-Uranus Aspects

Orange & Blue Seal Orange Banner

“You’re not like anyone else I’ve ever met.”

In some cases, we could easily dismiss these words as trite and inconsequential “game” designed to cater to one’s ego. However, when operating in an obvious manner, Venus-Uranus aspects in one’s birth chart remind us that one could utter this statement, and it would be absolutely TRUE.

Chances are, if you’re working with this aspect, you really don’t care whether statements like that are meant to flatter you or question your “weirdness”. The fact is, you need to own it and live it.  In an individual birth chart, Venus in contact with Uranus suggests the valuing of that which is unconventional, offbeat and avant-garde. Your radar is honed toward customizing your life and relationships in a matter that screams authenticity.

However, the flip side of the coin is that you shock and ruffle the feathers of conventional society. The rebel inside of you is constantly seeking new ways to live YOUR life. Not a re-run of your parents’ life, your friends or anyone else. The cookie cutter lifestyle isn’t a part of your agenda and you make no bones about letting everyone know that.

Almost every day, inside your spirit, there’s a revolution going on. For you: revolution means evolution and the only constant that we can count on is change. You silently laugh at others opinions about your relationships and personal style and appearance, and you scoff at those who live in these spaces by rote and couldn’t conjure up an independent thought to save their lives.

If you’re exercising the potential of this planetary aspect, you’ve most certainly crafted your unique version when it comes to attraction and love. Somewhere along the line, you’ve had to come to grips with the fact that your friends and associates may not ever understand that you might not need the ring, gated community and the ski racks on your car. Hell, you may not even need the car! You can best believe that anyone you’re relating to as an intimate partner understands this, too. Or, your relationship will end just as quickly as it started.

Living freely and spontaneously and resisting labels and boxes is one of your fortes. You know the secret that us mere mortals are trying to grasp: from breath to breath and moment to moment, we’re different. From one blink of an eye to the next, we’re never the same anymore. So, what you uttered in fervent conviction two hours ago may be something which meets the fury of your disdain at this very moment.

What we can learn from you is to embrace the willingness to approach our lives from a fresh perspectives, always examining what we can possibly breathe new life into and reinvent. We can also learn about the ramifications that impulsive behavior and rebellion for sport has on personal productivity.
