Virgo Sun, Gemini Moon : “Right and Exact”

round-silver-colored-wall-clock-2853664

Here, we have a combination geared toward the life of the mind and the propagation of ideas. Elementally, with earth and air, there’s a researcher present which seeks practical findings and results.  The mutability of this combination suggests a penchant for adjusting oneself to changing circumstances and possibly thriving while doing so.

The potential for strength of intellect is clear.  There’s a need to pursue certain lines of thought just for the sake of satiating curiosity, while one is ultimately illuminated through analysis and that which one can measure. This has the makings of a fruitful combination if the lines of scientific thought blend well with a youthful and experimental openness.

One’s life’s work is the pulling apart of components in order to hold them to the light. This critical scrutiny is designed to assess ways in which a person, idea or system can function in a healthier, more streamlined manner.

With this blend, one’s core needs are centered around learning that comes with variety. There’s a feeling of being “at home” with dualities and competing perspectives.  Playing the role of detached observer comes naturally, but it can also bring challenges in situations where a more personal touch is needed.

In synthesis, these solar and lunar components can produce the expert linguist, where speech is refined and exact; an uncanny ability to describe, with pure precision, what one sees and experiences. It can be said that “learning is your craft”, as categorization  and classification nourish the deepest part of yourself.

It’s important to make room for a broad, overarching framework in which to place your findings. Otherwise, you could easily suffer from having ingested too much with no way to use it. Also, a gentle reminder that there’s a difference between data and people always helps, as it’s important to curb the tendency of the “white coat, lab rat” syndrome where your prize is an illusory “objectivity” , which can cost you what would otherwise be significant relationships in your life.

The freedom to circulate like air fuels your vitality. The sooner you recognize your many facets and realize that it’s impossible for you to be trapped in any type of box- the better.

Your emotional needs center around issues of self-confidence and honest acceptance of your uniqueness. You must feel validated from the inside in order to be fulfilled. Much of your life’s journey is about exercising youthful curiosity and asking the right questions, which will yield useful information and expanded understanding.

The primary lens through which you process your experience is one which challenges what some would refer to as “customary” or “normal”.

For you, the status quo is something to be questioned at all costs. You seek to serve and uplift humanity on a large scale and will find that exercising your ability for objective detachment will allow you to see people and issues from a much wider view, which automatically increases everything you’re able to take into your storehouse.

For your being to illuminate, it’s important that you feel literate in the most authentic sense. To be engaged in that which stimulates you energizes your life force . Even if you come across ideas which may be “conflicting” , you somehow have a knack for understanding and navigating life’s dualities.

For you, the key component which needs to be incorporated is genuine self-esteem.  That is, the ability to develop your personal identity and subsequently attach a value to it. Do you like what you see? How do you feel about what you’re becoming?

Because the work of the Gemini Sun is done through the Leo Moon, your specialness must be solidified and enjoyed before you can do the work of exploring all of your dimensions. It’s also important to recognize that rejection of certain parts of yourself can limit your capacity to connect with others and this will debilitate that Aquarius rising “common touch” that you would regularly display under more healthy circumstances.

Enjoy being yourself with all of your quirks, never stop asking relevant questions and use differences in people as a vehicle to gain more understanding of yourself and others.

As the chief engineer of this astrological signature, your prime need is to foster a sense of emotional safety, which propels your aspirations of establishing equal partnerships built upon trust, reciprocity and kindness. Your immediate entrance into the world is flanked by an innate curiosity, which suggests an adroit “scanning” of your immediate environment for any pertinent information which will allow you to navigate it more intelligently.

The lens of observation, questioning and classification is used to process your experiences and form your worldview.

With this blend, mental flexibility,  emotional intelligence and social savvy can serve you as a solid strengths. One of the keys to the successful structuring of your energies is to understand that it’s unhealthy for you to live exclusively in the mind or the heart. Ideally these two units are supposed to serve as guides and informers for the other. To know when to make the transition in order to get where you need to go is one of your most important developmental tasks.

Another major lesson to be learned centers around how to develop a flexible definition of what constitutes internal security. To understand that safety doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of changing conditions, nor does it consist of a soul numbing predictability.

What you must do is locate the equilibrium which is most compatible with your overall temperament.

While you can certainly hold on to the ideal of living in an environment which is non-threatening and devoid of attempts at manipulation and exploitation, you must also employ your fortitude and the inner knowing that your adaptability renders you capable of handling such circumstances should they arise. Your tenacity and ingenuity will be the crafters of your eventual exit strategy.

Sagittarius Sun, Virgo Moon : “Don’t Sweat the Technique”

man-wearing-blue-sleeveless-top-2216612

The practical application of knowledge and the efficient use of your philosophical understanding are two areas of irrefutable importance in your life. One of the largest questions for you becomes: “How can I make the best of what I have?”

When releasing your arrows of thought into the universe, having a precise direction or location is something that has the potential to benefit you greatly.

While the desire to see the big picture fuels your lifeblood, there is also a need to pick things apart and get down to the minutiae. Always asking what life is all about in the larger sense, while simultaneously figuring out how to refine its processes, and combining your insights and offering them as service to humanity.

To know that you’re making a difference strikes a major chord in your psyche. You’re rewarded by the feeling of catapulting yourself into a situation where throughout the process, there are obvious signs of continuous improvement. On the flip side, if you’re operating dysfunctionally, you may be inclined to shout a sermon from the rooftops on everything that’s “wrong” with someONE or something both morally and structurally.

” And now, I stay on target and refuse to miss”.

Those words were uttered by the legendary Rakim, in your theme song: “Don’t Sweat the Technique”

Gemini Sun, Libra Moon

portrait-photo-of-woman-in-hoop-earrings-and-yellow-dashiki-3087126 (1)

In an individual birth chart, when the Sun is placed in Gemini and the Moon in Libra, the person is fueled by variety of perspectives. The core life energy is geared toward quenching an almost insatiable intellectual curiosity. This consists of gathering facts, classifying information, defining and labeling with the ultimate goal of differentiation.

The Sun’s placement in Gemini suggests the the potential to express oneself with mental agility as well as strength in logical analysis.

The Libra Moon uses the Gemini Sun’s light to reflect a personality whose essential need is to balance acceptance of self with societal approval. There is an emotional need to be seen as a humane, kind and affable person. Someone who “gets along with everyone.”

Harmonious relations are what nourish the individual with the Moon in Libra. The placement suggests that if effort is applied, a considerable amount of progress can be made in building bridges and finding common ground with others.

When this Sun-Moon blend is operating dysfunctionally within a person, they have the potential to be the MASTER conflict dodger. Since the Gemini Sun’s placement suggests the life energy that surrounds verbal dexterity: a.k.a, being slick with words, and “rubbing others the wrong way” is a Libra Moon’s anathema, facing the reality that disagreements are going to happen can pose as a challenge.

Astrologer Hadyn Paul writes:

“Your need for approval may mean that you follow the group path rather than listening to your own inner promptings or your own personal needs, due to a fear of becoming ostracized or alienated from group acceptance. You need to belong, and this need is projected out onto social groupings, but perhaps the deeper need is that of owning and reflecting your whole nature.

In trying to please others and make yourself indispensable you may be repressing areas of your own nature, especially the moon qualities resulting in emotional repression and denial of your own feeling instincts.

In an attempt to minimize disharmony, Libra can tend to evade, whether inner or outer, especially those painful areas of self and life, preferring to ignore or run away from them. This is often the case where the alternative is to face up to the realities of a relationship where the need is for direct confrontation designed to resolve developing differences and for a deeper level of communication to clear the air.”

The key to using this Sun-Moon blend effectively is to develop the capacity for communicating and relating at deeper levels even though the result may not necessarily carry the breezy “lightness” that you’re used to.

Also, to use the gift of gab and social astuteness as not only vehicles to align yourself with others, but also as devices to help navigate conflict resolution rather than the wholesale avoidance of confrontation.

Sagittarius, Dating & Relationships : A Deeper Look at The Archer

smiling-man-standing-and-dancing-near-smiling-woman-2240771

If we’ve read enough sun sign columns, we’re familiar with both the constructive and the dysfunctional expressions of all 12 zodiac signs. We’re also well acquainted with each sign’s reputation when certain behavioral inclinations are concerned. The passionate intensity of Scorpio, the analytic precision of Virgo or the acute intuition of Cancer just to name a few.

So….. what about Sagittarius? You ask….

For whatever reasons, the Archer seems to have gained a reputation among the zodiac as the perpetual bachelor or bachelorette. The sign which prefers to stay free and unencumbered versus preferring a steady, long-term relationship or marriage.

I make the case, however, that there’s much more to this scenario than the ink written on the pages of these sun sign columns can tell us. We must adjust our thinking to a broader level to appreciate not a fragment of, but the entire Sagittarian archetype.

In much of the Astrological literature I come across, when Sagittarius is being analyzed, there seems to be a direct correlation made between the Centaur’s desire and need for freedom and the inability to commit to a long-term partnership.

If we examine Sagittarius on a deeper level, I think we’ll find that the lesser question is : “Why can’t Sagittarians commit?” and the greater question is: “What type of relationship encourages the Archer to explore long range possibilities?”

Most of us learned in “Research Methods 101” that the manner in which a question is asked predetermines the range of possible answers. If the question is: “Why can’t Sagittarians commit?” It automatically excludes the possibility of them being capable of committing to a partnership.

NOTE: This article is not only applicable to those with the Sun placed in Sagittarius, but also those with personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus,Mars) in the sign as well as Sagittarius rising.

Much of what’s written could also apply to those whose chart suggests a strong Jupiterian influence such as Jupiter placed in Sagittarius, in the 1st house, in major aspect to any of the personal planets and the Ascendant.

The Sagittarius Archetype

When analyzing Sagittarius, we must first consider the symbolism. Half Woman/Man and half beast. A Centaur or an Archer pointing its arrow emphatically upward into the vastness of the universe.

This entire picture broadcasts both the need for the arrow of thoughts and ideas to fly free through the open cosmos and the body to remain comfortably rooted in its animal nature. Sagittarius isn’t as much seeking to transcend his or her physicality as they are intent on successfully integrating it into the totality of their being.

The 9th sign of the zodiac seeks to find a deeper meaning in BOTH functions as a vehicle for constructing a personal philosophy. Sagittarius wants to take heed to the words of Paulo Coelho and “learn to recognize omens and follow them.” The Archer possesses an insatiable thirst for life experience and an enthusiasm for following his or her personal legend.

Relationships

For Sagittarius, where partnerships are concerned, it’s not so much a matter of whether or not they have the ability to commit, but rather WHAT they would potentially be committing TO.

When discussing Sags, Astrologer Steven Forrest once alluded to the concept of love being hard on the freedom that the archer so desperately needs- and it CAN be. However, it doesn’t HAVE to be soul draining.

One of the keys to relationship success for the Centaur is ruthless self-honesty regarding their own relationship needs. Especially when it comes to personal space.

Now, this “space” is not a free pass to go off half cocked and undermine the fundamental trust and integrity on which a solid, healthy relationship is based, but rather the freedom to think big thoughts; to dream about large scale ventures and contemplate life’s enormous questions. After all, this is the way of the Philosophical wiring which comes with the assembly of so many Sags.

actor-adult-adventure-1051070

If Sag finds the type of partner that understands this system and recognizes the importance of his/her life journey, they’re MORE than willing to commit. You may even catch one of them with bells on!! Astrologer Jeffrey Wolf Green writes the following about Venus in Sagittarius, which could be applied to any personal placement:

” The Venus in Sagittarius person is fundamentally restless, and is committed to the value of personal freedom to pursue any experience they deem necessary in order to discover and actualize themselves. The need for freedom permeates these people , and they generally will not tolerate any condition or constraint that inhibits their independence or freedom.

When such conditions or constraints exist, the Venus in Sagittarius person will progressively feel an inner alienation from those conditions or constraints, and the psychology or alienation becomes a causal factor or determinant in separating, at least inwardly from those conditions or constraints.”

Furthermore:

” In their intimate relationships, the Venus in Sagittarius person is forever needing and trying to balance their need for independence within the context of their relationship. Because these people have an almost absolute need for perpetual growth within themselves, they need and desire an intimate other who is also committed to personal growth.

This will then allow for the dynamics within the relationship to be defined by a mutual commitment to growth. in effect, these individuals need to be in a relationship where there’s an ongoing sense of adventure.

The Venus in Sagittarius person will simply experience a deep alienation from their partner when the relationship has degenerated into a stale, static routine. They need a partner who can mirror and reflect their own reality of intellectual and philosophical pondering. A partner with whom they can interact in this way at an equal level.

The Venus in Sagittarius person needs this  kind of  intellectual or philosophical stimulation and to be periodically challenged by their partner through such types of discussions. When this occurs, they will have a tremendous amount of respect for their partner, and will sustain their enthusiasm  for the relationship. When this does not occur, then they lose respect for the partner and become progressively alienated.”

adult-beach-girl-1058951

A long time ago, I remember reading an Astrology book that said something to the effect of: ” to attract Sagittarius, you’ll need to act like you overdosed on positive affirmation tapes.” I had to laugh when I read that because it gives form to the potent thrust of Sagittarius’ buoyancy.

THIS is part of the package that Sagittarius is willing to commit to: life-affirming optimism, vitality;  a sense of the next physical or intellectual adventure just around the corner:

“By nature, the Venus in Sagittarius person needs levity, humor, lightness and optimism to pervade their intimate relationship. If their with a partner who is constantly too serious or withdrawn, this will also become a causal factor in creating a state of alienation and withdrawl  from such a partner.

They will naturally encourage the independent actualization and will develop a deepening respect for their partners who independently actualize their own life purposes. They will not respect a partner who just wants to hang on to them without developing their own identity or life purpose, or a partner who attempts to restrict their need for necessary freedom and independence.”

The Other Side of The Game

Since we’ve hopefully come to the conclusion that Sagittarius, like every other sign of the zodiac, is capable of fulfilling, long-term commitment, now it’s time to discuss what can potentially hold the Centaur back, where the Archer’s arrow misfires.

Polarized and Dogmatic Thinking

One of the dysfunctional expressions of Sagittarius energy is to listen and hear only through the filter of their own beliefs. When operating unproductively, there’s a tendency to to create a black and white scenario surrounding relationships. So, Sags feel like they’re either free as a bird floating in the crisp summer air or hopelessly bound to the ole ball and chain.

What the Archer needs to realize is that relationships require mutual sacrifice.

M-U-T-U-A-L sacrifice.

The Centaur can easily sabotage the ideal partnership he/she is seeking to create through a refusal to, as Paulo Coelho says: “to accept love as a stimulus.” The immature and underdeveloped Sagittarius sees love as a THREAT to his/her freedom; as something that’s going to deduct from them rather than add breadth and richness to their spectrum of life. Whereas the more mature version of the Archer, who has learned much from experience employs his/her openness as a means to grasp the supports that are being offered:

“If he has the courage to unearth his dreams, he then faces a second obstacle: love. He now knows what he desires to do, but he thinks he will harm those around him if he gives everything up to follow his dreams.

He does not understand that love is an additional impulse, not something which hinders one from going forward. he does not understand that those who truly wish him well are longing for his happiness and are ready to accompany him on his adventure.”

The Grass is Always Greener/Overly Futuristic Reverend “Do Good” Syndrome

“But….If I decide on THIS, what if something “better” comes along?”

I wouldn’t be surprised if this question hasn’t touched the brain waves of almost every Sagittarius infused individual. However, a potentially better question which garners consideration is:

“What are YOU doing in the HERE and NOW to make your CURRENT situation better?” It’s a classic Sagittarian pitfall to be so captivated by future possibilities that they’re tripping themselves up in the moment:

“Sagittarius is the sign most likely to be oblivious to the realities right in front of them that are obvious to everyone else because they are so focused on the distant goal. Since the road to hell is paved with good intentions, Sagittarius people need to be sure that their goals and ideals are grounded in what is truly possible.

They DO need a large guiding vision to motivate them in life, but they also need times of self-examination to assess whether they are themselves living up to their ideals. They like to preach to others (usually “helpfully” in their view), but if something doesn’t work out, well… that isn’t their problem. Sagittarius people rather dislike the heaviness of daily “reality” and personal or emotional problems.”

Sagittarius: here’s the bottom line. You’re natural, healthy idealism need not take a “hit” just because you’ve made the mature choice to temper it with a much needed dose of grounding and common sense. You must be painfully honest with yourself in regard to your vision for a partnership, as to not mislead others who may not want or need such and arrangement. What you choose to commit to is totally yours, but it’s important for you to know the “raw material” you’re working with in your psyche.

When it’s all said and done, it’s up to you to create a situation which honors your need(s) for independence, intellectual stimulation, levity and personal growth. While simultaneously accepting love as a stimulus and support. Recognizing a good thing when you see it and creating room for your partnership to play an integral role on your quest to follow your personal legend.

Astrology & Compatibility: Eliminating the Myth of the “Perfect Match”

happy-couple-3384584

“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” – Carl Jung

Where intimate relationships are concerned, there seems to be an ongoing debate regarding the significance of zodiac signs and astrology in general.

Some think astrology is quite helpful as a tool for self knowledge and it’s ability to highlight the themes and tendencies which may be present in their personal relationships, while others cast astrology as containing minimal merit and even playing  on the naivete and desperation of individuals who are searching for answers as to why they cannot find their dream partner or soulmate.

In true Sagittarian fashion, I’m going to give it to you straight.

Astrology is a strikingly profound art. When used constructively, practically, and with honorable intentions, it can reveal a great deal of valuable information regarding our compatibility with another individual.

However, what it doesn’t reveal is the level of consciousness at which we, or the partners we are comparing ourselves with are living out in our birth charts. Astrology does not tell us how mature we are or how accountable we are for our behavior.

Image

In synastry,(a.k.a. relationship astrology) having a “good” chart does not let you off the hook in maintaining the relationship any more than having a beautiful front lawn excuses you from mowing and caring for it.

Conversely, while a “difficult” chart may indicate challenges, if addressed earnestly, the two individuals may produce an inseperable union built on integrity, trust and mutual respect.

If we truly plan on using astrology for guidance in dating and relationships the way it was intended, the best method of operation is for us to know ourselves first.

Let’s have our charts interpreted by a competent professional astrologer. Or, at the minimum, explore a reliable free website to obtain a copy of our birth charts.

Through active participation we will be vastly more equipped to delve into, and evaluate, with discrimination, the wealth of information available in books and cyberspace. It is a requirement that we develop a thorough understanding of our own astrological dynamics, or we will find ourselves forever uttering the dreaded sentences:

“I’ll never date a (insert zodiac sign) again” or
“I don’t date (insert zodiac sign)”

For example, let’s say that you are now praising the celestial gods because you’ve found your “ideal” Pisces Man/Woman, and it appears that you’ll never have to deal with the cold, remote and impersonal Aquarian energies that give you the heebie- jeebies.

Zodiac66

However, you never looked deeply enough into the totality of astrology to find out that he/she’s an Aquarius rising with a stellium of the moon, mercury and venus in aquarius in the 11th house. True, the individual may have a Pisces sun, but a major portion of their chart reflects the same Aquarian flavoring that you were so intent upon escaping from.

We may need to participate in some serious self-examination and ask ourselves honest questions regarding whether we’ve discovered another convenient scapegoat on which to pin our anxieties, insecurities and frustrations.

Or, we sincerely want to incorporate astrology as a viable system of assistance and insight, into our relationships.

Another point worth considering is: through astrological research,  we may  discover that what’s holding us back is US.

OUR fears, phobias, baggage, complexes, etc… which we have conveniently projected upon the Scorpios, Sagittarians and Libra’s of the world. Maybe we’re not personifying the highest energies of our individual planetary placements and relationships. Difficult to read? Yes. Worth considering? Also yes.

When we reduce or remove accountability from the equationand minimize the power of our own efforts at self-improvement, we have not only failed astrology, but more importantly failed ourselves.

Working in our best interest, we allow astrology to serve us as a tool, we don’t serve IT, coupled with the self-deception that some irreversible cosmic fate awaits us.

So, who is your astrological dream match?

The answer is YOU.

The better YOU that you’re becoming. The YOU that you’re sincerely and consistently working to improve. YOU, with all of your strengths, talentsgifts, flaws and challenges. The wiser YOU, who, through experience has become more enlightened, liberated from past hurts, and more loving.

The life-affirming and positive YOU, who is ready to embark on the journey of becoming fully engaged in relating to another human being in an honest, intimate and heartfelt manner. Respecting and honoring your individual destinies, while sharing a collective quest.

Know and become yourself, and watch your world expand.

Cancer Sun, Aries Moon, Sagittarius Rising

photo-of-smiling-woman-sitting-on-the-ground-3008176

At virtually every turn, society sends out both grandiose and subtle messages that we should be afraid of the coming days. Visuals of elderly couples looking behind couch pillows to find money and preachers sweating feverishly telling us we’re going to burn in hell assault our psyches on a daily basis. As a result, our motivation to grasp our personal power as a collective vacillates between sparks of motivation and the floundering of victimhood.

If you’re reading this and you have the Sun, Moon, Ascendant blend of Cancer, Aries and Sagittarius, it’s important for you to know that the optimal use of your energies can result in someone who has banished internal fears and decided to open themselves up to living live on their own terms despite the daily dose of conditioning we receive via our age, gender, race, sexual orientation, culture, class, size, etc…

For you, the work of a strong self-awareness and intimate connection with your inner being is done through embracing risk, and embarking on challenges which will test your courage. Self-exposure is not necessarily easy for you, but it will provide a platform which will help you grow.

Your astrological signature suggests that you’re nurtured by facing your fears and there’s a spurt of development every time you do so.  What you really need to do is proceed through life with an intrepid attitude. Whether you’re fighting for a cause or feeding yourself through internal or external competition,  it’s a must that you go with the inclination to test yourself . You need goals and battles that will keep your blood pumping and adrenaline rushing. if you didn’t know, or have ever doubted that you have the heart of a warrior: NOW YOU KNOW.

The vehicle or lens through which you approach the world is telescopic. You need broad experiences and some type of guiding philosophy which will assist you in extracting meaning from your life. A good word for you is ENGAGED. It’s a necessity that you maximize your involvement with the world through consulting your feelings: listening to them and using them as a trusted advisor. The continuous challenge contained in this process is actually less of what you feel and more how you will decide to direct emotional energy. Simply put: anytime you feel the need to wallow in self-pity, understand that you’re using the same arsenal which can be infused in approaching and furthering your life, in any facet that you choose.

Intellectual and physical travel will help you immensely, as to understand that the whole world is waiting for YOU, no matter how you slice it. In every language or culture, you could translate a maxim which explains how giving into fear paralyzes us. This isn’t to say that you won’t ever be afraid of anything as you travel through life, but the key is to march forward in spite of it and not allow yourself to be immobilized.

An honoring of your internal radar, coupled with courageous action and a big picture worldview are part of your cosmic instructions.

Aquarius : The Developmental Lessons

smiling-man-sitting-near-another-man-standing-2247129

In order to develop your human potential and use it as an instrument for your liberation, it needs to be understood that your education has to be a subversive activity versus being a program for unquestioned compliance.

One of the messages in your life that must ring loud and true is that your evaluation of what’s personally rewarding  needs to be self structured, as opposed to being implanted or inculcated from outside forces.

Aquarius, in its association with Uranian eccentricity and being ruled by the pragmatism and common sense of Saturn, carries two distinct messages: (1) If you’re not rebelling, in some form,  against the prevailing order, it needs to be seriously examined and (2) If there’s no structure, strategy or organization in your insurgency, there’s equal cause for concern.

As  I’ve frequently stated, effective Astrology produces more thought-provoking questions than answers.  Your questions center around the role that conformity and non-conformity plays in your life.

It bears examination that conformity, in itself isn’t a negative thing. In some cases it’s necessary and desirable for the achieving of a concrete goal.  In fact, you’ll most likely realize that in some areas of your life you’ll even have to concede to some version of conformity and it’s merely a matter of what parts of yourself require this concession. That being said, it doesn’t deem you any less “revolutionary”.

“Exactly what am I conforming to?”

“Does it require or deserve my conformity?”

“Why am I conforming or not conforming?”

“To what ends will my conformity or non-conformity advance/restrict my cause?

Keep in mind that your particular brand of resistance isn’t designed to discover the ways that you can best “adjust” to the status quo, but rather to initiate through ideas, and participate through action, in changing the nuts and bolts of the ENTIRE system or systems that you find restrictive or oppressive.

Again, let’s not lose sight of a need for direction and definition.

In your inverted or maladjusted form, you can be a staunch advocate for all that’s “traditional”, upholding the present state of affairs to the degree that it serves your particular and selfish interests (read: ” I got mine, now get yours). There can even be a feeling of superiority in upholding the “rules”.

You can become a rebel without a cause, or consciously choose less threatening and consequential measures of eccentricity under the veneer of “making a statement.”

The Aquarius Archetype:

The Rebel. The Weirdo. The Beatnik, The Revolutionary. The Futurist. The Eccentric. The Free Spirit. The Reformer. The Activist. The Mad Scientist. The Non-Conformist.  The Individualist.

Aquarius carries the element of Air with a fixed modality which speaks to concepts and is well suited to resistance and determination.  When we examine the water bearer, we immediately think to ask: What’s in the water?  Also,  What are you bearing?

My answer, although incomplete, is enough to get one’s mental wheels churning: those with major Aquarian Energy (Sun & other personal planets) are bearing the tools needed to awaken (and even shock on some level) the masses through the questioning of the status quo. Contained in the archetypal Aquarian makeup is the psychologically undeniable need for emancipation and reform. As to how that’s achieved: avenues vary.

Those with this heavy water-bearing influence are inclined to experiment more than most because, when MATURE, Aquarian energy lacks a slavish attachment to ultimate outcomes and has a greater concern with possible pathways for innovation. Hence, the neutralization of significant approval needs grants much more breathing room than those who are constantly looking over their shoulder for validation. The developmental jewel here is to INTENTIONALLY structure one’s own standards and programs for self-recognition.

In a positively functional and empowered state, the Aquarian has accepted that ridicule, intermittent bouts of alienation, and isolation comes with the territory of their mission on earth, and these are less important than what they’re seeking to locate and bring out of themselves for the benefit of humanity.

When one allows external dictates to predominate, they become prey to the prescriptions for conformity indicated by the research of Edward Walker and Roger Heyns:

” If one wishes to produce conformity for good or evil, the formula is clear. Manage to arouse a need or needs that are important to the individual or to the group. Offer a goal which is appropriate to the need or needs. Make sure that conformity is instrumental to the achievement of the goal and that the goal is as large and certain as possible. ”

“Apply the goal or reward at every opportunity. Try to prevent the object of your efforts from obtaining an uncontrolled education.  Choose a setting that’s ambiguous. Do everything possible to see that the individual has little or no confidence in his own position.

“Do everything possible to make the norm which you set to appear highly valued and attractive. Set it at a level not too far initially from the starting position of the individual or the group and move it gradually toward the behavior you wish to produce. Be absolutely certain you know what you want and that you’re willing to pay an enormous price in human quality, for whether the individual or the group is aware of it or not, the result will be CONFORMITY”

(Italics and caps mine)

The temptation here, is to pursue the “dangled carrot” and to choose ultra-conformity, based on a mirage of  security as opposed to a springboard or necessity to more organizationally insubordinate endeavors.

Your theme song is “What They Do” by The Roots. Take a listen:

If there ever was a need to dig deeply AND penetrate precisely into this thing called life, it’s reflective of this Sun/Moon blend.  Your fuel is efficiency and analysis. You’re energized by being able to size up a situation or person and instantly conclude what can be “tightened up” or made better.  In short, you have the potential to be the ultimate efficiency expert. However, that’s not all.

Your emotional needs call for deep involvement and depth exploration. After all, you want to be regarded as significant and in control of your environment. What sustains you is knowing that there’s an opportunity to go beyond the superficial gloss and get right down to the nitty-gritty of something, even if it has repugnant undertones. The gifts of tremendous focus and intensity are your birthright.

Your perception of life is multi-faceted and curious. The lens through which you process experience can be adjusted to fit the specific circumstance of the situation. Intellectual inquiry is the vehicle which allow you to better serve humanity, which is what you’re here to do. it’s important that you make the distinction between service and servitude, for you are no one’s slave and not to be taken advantage of, and woe to the person who makes attempts to do so.

If you’re self-aware, your level of psychological sophistication tends to be well-developed. But, there’s a deep fear of losing control and becoming vulnerable which can lead to an obsessive need to control the elements around you through the same manipulative means that you despise in other people.

At your best, you have an incredible versatility and others feel deeply understood by you because of your blend of razor-sharp logic and emotional intelligence. At your worst, you have a slick tongue that plays mind games and there’s a private enjoyment in withholding your true thoughts and feelings as a control mechanism.
