Taurus Sun, Leo Moon : “Embracing Change”

woman-in-black-long-sleeve-dress-standing-on-brown-concrete-3186386
“Any real change implies the break up of the world as one has always known it, the loss of all that gave one identity, the end of safety. And at such a moment, unable to see and not daring to imagine what the future will now bring forth, one clings to what one knew, or thought one knew; to what one possessed or dreamed that one possessed. Yet it is only when man is able, without bitterness or self pity to surrender a dream he has long cherished, or a privilege he has long possessed, that he is set free-that he has set himself free- for higher dreams, for greater privileges.”

-James Baldwin, Nobody Knows My Name

The word change is defined in Webster’s dictionary as [1] To make different in some particular. [2] To make radically different: transform and [3] To give a position, course or direction to. It’s my contention  that in order to embrace our authenticity, we must become acquainted with change in some form and hone our ability to navigate those waters. This undoubtedly requires risk.

To truly be who we are and validate ourselves sans outside approval requires a tremendous amount of patience and intestinal fortitude. The combination of a Taurus Sun and Leo Moon serves as an accurate illustrator of the path of internal certification. On a general level, the combination of these two signs implies a relationship of dynamic or developmental tension.

This means when they’re synthesized the most significant growth can  emerge via periods of crisis, upheaval or intense circumstances which demand that we make very clear progression or regression choices. In an individual birth chart, when the Sun is placed in Taurus and the Moon in Leo, the core life energy is geared toward safety and security; the maintenance of stability. Keeping things as they are with relatively few surprises is the prevailing order of the day.

The Venus ruled Taurean energy is also stimulated by pleasure and the enjoyment of creature comforts which awaken and stir the senses. As an earth sign, the bull wants something they can “grab a hold of”  to point to as a symbol of certainty, whether it’s a career, relationship or money in the bank. The Leo Moon uses the Taurus Sun’s light to reflect an individual whose personality needs consist of identity validation, approval,  and the recognition and fundamental appreciation of their uniqueness. All of these emotional needs are ingredients to the puzzle of self esteem:

“Self esteem is the disposition to experience oneself as competent to cope with the basic challenges of life and as worthy of happiness.”

In order to be emotionally fulfilled, the Moon in Leo person must feel as if they have the necessary tools to not only “cope” as an individual,  but to flourish. With Leo’s sense of self-importance, there’s no “just getting by”. If that were to be the case, they might be viewed as “ordinary”, and in their book, that’s something too be avoided at all costs:

Needing to live up to a big and rather dramatized image of themselves, the Leo Moon person can be rather a show off. But they do it with such innocence and high expectations that they are often forgiven for their tendency toward self absorption and dramatization.”

When these Sun/Moon energies are blended, the tension which exists vacillates from wanting to keep conditions the same to desiring a growth and advance in the personality. A balance is required to maximize this placement. Stability of the most basic sort is required in our lives. However, part of acquiring self-esteem is the ability to successfully adjust to changes. To drop the script, act or image of this “big” person that you’ve convinced yourself that you need to embody and get on with the business of being yourself. If this path of authenticity is sought with great effort, the individual has the potential to be warmly inspiring and supportive to others who are also on their quest for self-actualization. In Nathaniel Branden’s book “The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem”, there’s a rundown of some basic ways self-esteem manifests in ourselves and others, many of which I deem applicable to the optimum use of the Taurus Sun/Leo Moon combination:

“Self-esteem expresses itself in a face, manner and way of talking and moving that projects the pleasure one takes in being alive. It expresses itself in an ease in talking of accomplishments or shortcomings with directness and honesty, since one is in friendly relationship to facts. It expresses itself in the comfort one experiences in giving and receiving compliments, expressions of affection, appreciation and the like. It expresses itself in an openness to criticism and a comfort about acknowledging mistakes because one’s self esteem is not tied to an image of “being perfect.”

“It expresses itself in one’s comfort with assertive (not belligerent) behavior in oneself and others. It expresses itself in an ability to preserve a quality of harmony and dignity under conditions of stress.”

Stability does not have to be synonymous with sameness or inertia. The highest compliment the Sun-Moon blend of Taurus and Leo can bestow upon the universe is to embrace taking the risks which come with the pursuit of authenticity and to implement personal changes over time which will allow them to meet the demands of genuine self-esteem.

Aquarius Sun, Leo Moon: ” I Get Out of All Your Boxes”

gray-scale-photo-of-woman-face-2344119

” We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own or to other people’s models, learn to be ourselves, and allow our natural channel to open.”
-Shakti Gawain

When the combination of the Sun in Aquarius and the Moon in Leo is contained in a birth chart, a quest toward a sense of personal authenticity coupled with the need to creatively express one’s true individuality, and receive validation for their essential identity, emerge as major themes.

All of us have a niche, or a thumbscrew. An ability or talent which we can cultivate within ourselves and excel at like no one in this entire world. After these gifts have been strengthened and refined internally, there comes a stage when it’s time to share them with the outside world for our own benefit as well as that of the masses.

If we’re not connected to our Sun sign, our vitality suffersIn our birth chart, the Sun symbolizes our life force and our gravitational center. If the light isn’t being used, the all of the other planets within the chart hold the possibility of remaining obscure and in the dark.

The Sun’s symbol is a simple, yet exceedingly profound one. A circle with a dot in the center. The circle illustrates the vast, infinite quality of the universe and the dot symbolizes the place that we carve out for ourselves in the cosmos. The specifics are up to us.

Our life energy and what fuels us are represented by the Sun.Ultimately, if we’re going to legitimately share our light with the world, we must be true to our Sun sign.

The Sun in Aquarius suggests that the type fuel needed to assist your engine in running at maximum capacity consists of having the freedom to “pour out water” which contains a revolutionary, reformist energy.

Change and new ideas are the stimulus which activate your being. Embracing and developing your uniqueness and living on your own terms without feeling that there’s always some “authority” in the midst to whom you must conform keeps your juices flowing. If there’s a trend or standard, it’s going to be set by YOU.

Enter the Moon.

The Moon doesn’t possess it’s own light, rather it’s a reflection of the Sun. This applies both astronomically as well as symbolically.

The Moon in Leo borrows the Aquarian Sun’s light and energy in order to create a personality form. The lunar needs are then expressed through the individual.

What nourishes a Leo Moon?  Recognition and validation of the unique self. Honor, praise
and acceptance of the person they’ve become. Royalty dwells within the spirit of the Moon in Leo and in order to be fulfilled, they require this acknowledgement on some level.

One of the keys to integrating this combination is to artfully maintain and preserve that genuine place within your heart where you store your uniqueness, while simultaneously offering it as a gift to free humanity from it’s self-imposed limits. THAT’s a win-win.

Sagittarius Sun, Aquarius Moon : “I Break Chains All By Myself”

” Freedom is not an ideal located outside of man; nor is it an idea which becomes myth. It is rather the indispensable condition for the quest for human completion.” – Paulo Freire

When a Sagittarius Sun and Aquarius Moon meet up in a birth chart, the ideal blending of the truth seeker and the revolutionary emerges. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find many other cosmic combinations which prize independence just as enthusiastically.

I find it quite interesting that on a basic level, the Sun in Sagittarius is propelled by the freedom TO, while the Aquarius Moon has a reigning need for freedom FROM.

In Sagittarius, we are introduced to the philosophically minded truth seeker, the explorer of life’s highest, most ancient insights. The solar fuel which ignites the archer suggests the desire to be illuminated in the most authentic sense.

Sagittarians want to know.

The archer is driven by the freedom to search high and low for anything which will provide a more expansive view on the world in which they live. No city, state, country, library, bar or seedy venue is off limits. The centaur simply looks at these as the branches of the same tree. They put the pieces together accordingly and then promptly synthesize them into a comprehensive understanding of the big picture.

The Moon in Aquarius uses the questing, exploratory fuel provided by Sagittarius to form a personality which has an emotional need to combat and dismantle the trappings of societal and cultural conditioning.

The Lunar water bearer desires freedom FROM.

independence from the stultifying, mind-numbing  propaganda and doctrines which are passed off as “education”. Freedom from familial settings where they’re labeled the “black sheep”, because Aquarian Moons carry around a totally different idea about what’s “normal“.

In fact, they find it quite puzzling (and irritating) that the definers of this “normalcy” use THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR as the standard, as if this lends itself to credibility.

Ultimately, the message of your life is that you can’t hide or run from the TRUTH of your own being. If you’re feeling strange or extraterrestrial- GOOD.  Teach us and show us how to work that on earth. Be an example of  the beautiful weirdo. Customize your existence. Blaze that trail.

Sagittarius Sun, Libra Moon : ” I Finesse Everything”

monochrome-photography-of-person-laughing-1484799

In Dale Carnegie’s ground breaking best seller “How to Win Friends & Influence People”, the first chapter is entitled ” If You Want To Gather Honey, Don’t Kick Over the Beehive”. I think this phrase is a perfect segue into the discussion of the Sagittarius Sun, Libra Moon combination.

Sagittarian fuel is comprised of the assertion, or thrust of perceived truth into the world with the expectation of having impact on others’ ways of thinking. To influence, and to ‘educate’, which is derived from the Latin root educo, meaning to educe or draw out.

The Archer gains stimulus from drawing knowledge out of others to lead them from the stifling constraints of small thinking into an expanded, more comprehensive perspective. Sagittarius’ life energy is comprised of a holistic mentality, which consists of the weaving together of broad based philosophies which function as wholes and not disconnected pieces of data. The Centaur is further motivated by the challenge of expanding and advancing these systems of thought through it’s ability to synthesize facts.

With the Moon in Libra, the core needs of the personality revolve around connectivity with others based on the principles of equality, objectivity and goodwill. This lunar placement also wishes to draw others out, but more for the purpose of  discourse in hopes they may discover common ground, even in the midst of potential conflicts. A Libra Moon suggests a personality which is nourished by tact, diplomacy and compliance with the rules of social etiquette.

Because of the Sagittarian Sun’s desire to affect thought and have its opinion respected, it would seem more than reasonable for them to abide by these rules to increase the chances of their wisdom being received in a favorable manner. What the Archer needs to keep in mind is that consideration for the sensibilities of others rarely diffuses the potency of the truth which they’re so adept at conveying.

When this Sun-Moon combination is operating in a dysfunctional manner the commitment to “truth” over extends itself and manifests behaviorally as self-righteous zealotry which intrudes on others’ freedom to experience and convey their personal reality, and the willingness to recognize another side of an issue is diminished.

Used constructively, this solar-lunar blend encourages and promotes an educative process which emphasizes inclusion and equal participation as opposed to dogmatic proselytizing based on heavy handed directives. The remembrance that EVERYONE has a perspective.

Sagittarius Sun, Gemini Moon : “I Whirlwind Through Cities”

architecture-billboard-black-and-white-2173365

A number of years back, a film was made by HBO on the infamous boxing promoter, Don King. Mr. King was played by Ving Rhames. One of the things I’ll always remember was the completely Sagittarian philosophy King was portrayed as displaying toward the contracts of his boxers when promoting his fights : “just sign by the X and we’ll fill in the details later !!!” He exclaimed.

This leads us into the land of the Gemini-Sagittarius polarity.

In a birth chart, when the Sun is placed in Sagittarius, the core energy which provides stimulus to the individual consists of broadening the identity and worldview via physical and intellectual questing. It’s a necessity to view life from the widest frame of reference.

Psychologically, the archer is driven by the pursuit of an all encompassing truth and philosophy which provides clues to the grand cosmic design of which we’re all a part.

A thirst for knowledge and search for meaning which enlists the archetypes of the Wise Woman/Man, Visionary, Philosopher, Prophet and Teacher of High Wisdom pervades the heart of the centaur’s life force.

The Moon in Gemini uses the energy of the Sun to reflect forth an individual whose personality needs consist of the diversification of thought, social adaptability and a constant flow of mental discourse and the sharing of ideas.

This Sun-Moon blend illustrates the Sagittarian potential for synthesis of the whole along with Gemini’s possibilities in the adroit analysis of the parts. Where the energy of Gemini classifies, labels and categorizes, Sagittarius theorizes and creates more comprehensive systems of thought.

The dysfunctional expression of this Sun-Moon combination can manifest behaviorally as an individual who, amidst the excitement of their new enlightenment, proclaims that they’ve discovered the ONE and ONLY truth which applies to everything.

Consequently a tremendous amount of time and energy is now spent trying to “convince and convert” others to their worldview while dismissing other findings of truth as being invalid and overlooking important details in the process.

Conversely, One can also become lost in the process of isolating selected pieces of information or the collection of data, never making the transition to a broader spectrum of knowledge and wisdom.

A constructive synthesis of this Sun-Moon combination consists of developing the capacity to grasp the magic of thinking big, while holding simultaneous awareness that “the devil is in the details”. Making room for youthful curiosity and wonderment to acknowledge the myriad of truths which exist within our vast universe.

Relationship Astrology: Neptune-Ascendant Contacts in Synastry : The “Dream Merchant”

card-dark-floating-focus-1236730

When we think about Neptunian energy, something that is not immediately graspable comes to mind. It’s elusive, nebulous and boundless. Equally, it’s ethereal and enchanting.

Upon meeting another individual, the Ascendant, a.k.a., the rising sign is usually what we’ll encounter as being their “representative”. While the Ascendant isn’t our inner essence, it makes a statement about our orientation to the world and symbolizes the “vehicle” most aptly equipped to help us navigate our life terrain.

What do we make of it when one person’s Neptune contacts another’s Ascendant (or vice versa) via synastry?

The answers to this question can range from awe inspiring and soul stirring to unbelievably delusional and deceptive. With Neptune in the picture, idealism is at the forefront of the entire interaction.

Automatically, there’s an inclination to view each other in a state of how we would WANT things to be.

While not inherently harmful, what’s important is to make the distinction of what realities are present in the relationship without using that idealism to obscure things that we might find unpleasant or difficult to deal with. The trouble begins when we invent an alternative universe because we find that the one staring us in the face to be less than Nina Mosley and Darius Lovehall’s chance meeting at “The Sanctuary”.

There’s a fascination contained in these contacts, which in true Neptunian fashion, goes above and beyond description and catapults us into the world of inspirational visions. Chances are, if you have this aspect with another person, there is a “pull” of allure that you feel that you must explore.

There’s no doubt that the Neptune-Ascendant link can denote a spiritual connection and unconditional acceptance of the other person.

There can be a feeling of “purified” admiration for each other’s self-presentation. If both people are mature and authentic in what they show the world, this aspect makes for an uplifting one where they can be of assistance to one another, infusing creativity into one another’s aspirations.

On the flip side, if we allow our imagination to run buck wild with no concrete grounding, we’ll be somewhere screaming that this person “wasn’t what i thought they were” or falling victim to the wiles of “Mr. Dream Merchant” who warns us:

“I sell dreams/sell schemes, sell you anything for a bite of that cream/but once you get what you get it’s not as good as it seems- so just open up your eyes……”

Neptune-Ascendant contacts teach us to remain awake to the possibilities, while not allowing ourselves to be lulled to sleep into a ultra quixotic dream.

Moon-Ascendant Contacts in Synastry: “Emotional Understanding”

couple-love-together-hug-45644

When it comes to intimate relationships, emotional understanding is undoubtedly one of the most vital pieces to the puzzle of success.

Between two individuals, when major contacts are present between the Moon and Ascendant, the potential for such a dynamic is just waiting to be realized. In my opinion, it matters less whose Moon or Ascendant is doing the contacting and more, that an open, heartfelt display of feelings be honored between the two parties.

The potential attraction exists because one feels secure in the presence of the other based on their overall identity projection. It’s like both people have sniffed out an invisible “shame-free” zone in which they can operate in. A haven where judgement is pushed to the side in favor of unconditional support.

Moon-Ascendant contacts suggest that the emotional states of both parties will be easily revealed to the other, so there’s really no use in trying to hide that bad day at the office because you didn’t receive the promotion. Yeah…. you’re gonna talk about it!!

This can be beautiful, or quite troubling at times because even though both partners are on the “same page”, one may be reading far ahead of the other.  Also, with so much free flowing emotion, it’s important to remember that advantages of gaining some distance so each person owns their “stuff” and resists projecting it on to the other.

Overall, the opportunities which exist within these contacts are a sense of safety; of never feeling “under siege”. This sets up the possibility of a fearless display of love. The type of relationship where anything can be shared with either party and the responsibility that comes with having the heart of the other in the palm of one’s hand is taken with the utmost seriousness and handled with absolute care.

Gemini Sun, Capricorn Moon

woman-lying-on-area-rug-reading-books-2899918

The core of your being is illuminated by maintaining a youthful, breezy adaptability, as there’s an uncanny  ability to adjust to life’s situations irrespective of what’s thrown at you. However, many times this is perceived as a lack of seriousness about life and that’s far from the case.

Inside, you struggle from bouts of inadequacy because you always think that you should be “better” in relation to anything you touch or any interaction you have. There’s a tight grip on your heart and the playfulness serves as a way to ease that weight.

Taking responsibility for your emotional life is one of your greatest lessons to learn because at your highest potential you’re designed to live a life of integrity where the public and private you is aligned. You don’t have to fake it. The reality of your feelings is one of your greatest allies. So, curbing the tendency to bury significant emotions under a veneer of jokes only enables you to further evade the root of  issues that need to be addressed.

Once that accountability is established, you’ll feel more grounded and confident. In addition, you’re able to more effectively deal with the feelings of others with an air of detachment which doesn’t say ” I don’t care”, but rather finds an objective space which will prevent you from being swayed into unhealthy decision-making.

With your Sun/Moon blend, the “youth” and the adult can work in unison. Understand that all work and no play indeed makes you dull, but also there are definitely matters in life which require the sober, ponderous and strategic approach that is naturally yours.

Balancing your sociability and solitude is also a key theme when it comes to your cosmic signature. You need time to process things and this needs to be accepted.  You will need to find the sweet spot between focus and variety. You can’t be everywhere at once and this can scatter your energies as well as your brain.

If you’re able to successfully navigate this terrain, you will undoubtedly feel as if your ideas and your life in general has gained an “elastic pragmatism” where you can entertain possibilities, but have the common sense to know which ones are worth entertaining and which ones are merely flights of fancy.

At best, you possess a solid, hard-won emotional savvy along with a mental agility that can strip people and situations down to the bare bones. At worst you refuse to allow yourself the space needed to address your inner needs and overcompensate by convincing yourself and others that your life is nothing but fun and games.

Mars in Sagittarius

woman-sitting-on-top-of-volkswagen-2845631 (1)

Energy application through opinion.

There’s a missionary quality that’s illustrated by this placement.  Having the “right” answer is important, but there can also be a blind centering of oneself as the one and only truth bearer. It’s vital for one’s perspective to align with a personal belief system when Mars is placed in Sagittarius. There’s a desire present to elevate discourse, provoke thought and broaden the scope of one’s vision as well as the perspectives of others.

Sexual style is expressed in an adventurous, open-minded and uninhibited fashion, but can be prone to overindulgence when maladaptive. When ethics are taken into consideration, going “above and beyond” and exploring new heights and vistas with a willing partner is the more healthy manifestation.

Cancer Sun, Scorpio Moon

smiling-woman-in-jacket-3373398

Emotional honesty is your pathway to internal security.

You possess massive potential to provide an unassailable haven for others to heal. It’s one of your callings to be the purveyor of the message that it may take “death” to sustain life.

There’s a tremendous gift of psychological insight contained within this solar/lunar blend. Also, an astounding responsibility in handling human emotional resources .

For those of us who view the Cancerian vibe as strictly “meek and mild”, we should think again.

This crab has a stinger.

It may be skillfully concealed, but when activated,  you will know doubt feel the potency of its existence. The “water” of which this combination is comprised of isn’t tepid from the tap, but rather supercharged H2O infused with minerals of intensity and passion.

Your combination suggests that an intimate connection to people and situations is a priority, even if the feeling isn’t reminiscent of the “clean cut” sound of a barber shop quartet. For you, the sincere acknowledgement and authentic expression of emotion looms large.

Your life force is fueled through creating a sense of safety in the world. Having confidence in your chosen method of self-protection which you use to intuitively navigate the undercurrents of human feeling. This is reflected in a personality that needs to eliminate any internal patterns of toxicity which may put you “under siege”, or activate fears of having your vulnerability exploited.

You must control through knowing; through keen, instinctual awareness of the human condition. Probably better than anyone, you realize that although it’s bright and sunny, life can also be murky, cloudy- and as dark as midnight.

Release is a central theme in your life. Burning within is the hunger for an avenue to channel the conundrum of volcanic emotional energy.

Serving others as a trusted agent in their process of transformation certainly qualifies as a productive use of your powers.

Dysfunctionally, you indiscriminately strip others “butt naked” and flip open the gates of exposure and call it “truth”, ignoring the enormous subjectivity of your lenses. Realize that this can cause not only harm to the person (or people) involved, but also to YOU.

Understand that in those precious moments, you may have betrayed your heart’s natural sense of empathy and the innate sensitivity which draws other people to you like a magnet. Preserving those gifts is an absolute key to your well being.

Acute and penetrating perception can forever be your ally. How you choose to wield a sword that cuts both ways will ultimately help write your life script.

Tender and caring incisions at the precise point of pain may be a strategy that’s well worth considering.
