Taurus Sun, Leo Moon

“Any real change implies the break up of the world as one has always known it, the loss of all that gave one identity, the end of safety. And at such a moment, unable to see and not daring to imagine what the future will now bring forth, one clings to what one knew, or thought one knew; to what one possessed or dreamed that one possessed. Yet it is only when man is able, without bitterness or self pity to surrender a dream he has long cherished, or a privilege he has long possessed, that he is set free-that he has set himself free- for higher dreams, for greater privileges.”

-James Baldwin, Nobody Knows My Name

The word change is defined in Webster’s dictionary as [1] To make different in some particular. [2] To make radically different: transform and [3] To give a position, course or direction to. It’s my contention  that in order to embrace our authenticity, we must become acquainted with change in some form and hone our ability to navigate those waters. This undoubtedly requires risk.

To truly be who we are and validate ourselves sans outside approval requires a tremendous amount of patience and intestinal fortitude. The combination of a Taurus Sun and Leo Moon serves as an accurate illustrator of the path of internal certification. On a general level, the combination of these two signs implies a relationship of dynamic or developmental tension.

This means when they’re synthesized the most significant growth can  emerge via periods of crisis, upheaval or intense circumstances which demand that we make very clear progression or regression choices. In an individual birth chart, when the Sun is placed in Taurus and the Moon in Leo, the core life energy is geared toward safety and security; the maintenance of stability. Keeping things as they are with relatively few surprises is the prevailing order of the day.

The Venus ruled Taurean energy is also stimulated by pleasure and the enjoyment of creature comforts which awaken and stir the senses. As an earth sign, the bull wants something they can “grab a hold of”  to point to as a symbol of certainty, whether it’s a career, relationship or money in the bank. The Leo Moon uses the Taurus Sun’s light to reflect an individual whose personality needs consist of identity validation, approval,  and the recognition and fundamental appreciation of their uniqueness. All of these emotional needs are ingredients to the puzzle of self esteem:

“Self esteem is the disposition to experience oneself as competent to cope with the basic challenges of life and as worthy of happiness.”

In order to be emotionally fulfilled, the Moon in Leo person must feel as if they have the necessary tools to not only “cope” as an individual,  but to flourish. With Leo’s sense of self-importance, there’s no “just getting by”. If that were to be the case, they might be viewed as “ordinary”, and in their book, that’s something too be avoided at all costs:

Needing to live up to a big and rather dramatized image of themselves, the Leo Moon person can be rather a show off. But they do it with such innocence and high expectations that they are often forgiven for their tendency toward self absorption and dramatization.”

When these Sun/Moon energies are blended, the tension which exists vacillates from wanting to keep conditions the same to desiring a growth and advance in the personality. A balance is required to maximize this placement. Stability of the most basic sort is required in our lives. However, part of acquiring self-esteem is the ability to successfully adjust to changes. To drop the script, act or image of this “big” person that you’ve convinced yourself that you need to embody and get on with the business of being yourself. If this path of authenticity is sought with great effort, the individual has the potential to be warmly inspiring and supportive to others who are also on their quest for self-actualization. In Nathaniel Branden’s book “The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem”, there’s a rundown of some basic ways self-esteem manifests in ourselves and others, many of which I deem applicable to the optimum use of the Taurus Sun/Leo Moon combination:

“Self-esteem expresses itself in a face, manner and way of talking and moving that projects the pleasure one takes in being alive. It expresses itself in an ease in talking of accomplishments or shortcomings with directness and honesty, since one is in friendly relationship to facts. It expresses itself in the comfort one experiences in giving and receiving compliments, expressions of affection, appreciation and the like. It expresses itself in an openness to criticism and a comfort about acknowledging mistakes because one’s self esteem is not tied to an image of “being perfect.”

“It expresses itself in one’s comfort with assertive (not belligerent) behavior in oneself and others. It expresses itself in an ability to preserve a quality of harmony and dignity under conditions of stress.”

Stability does not have to be synonymous with sameness or inertia. The highest compliment the Sun-Moon blend of Taurus and Leo can bestow upon the universe is to embrace taking the risks which come with the pursuit of authenticity and to implement personal changes over time which will allow them to meet the demands of genuine self-esteem.

Cancer The Crab: “Home Is Where The Heart Is”

The Home. T - Indiana Home T, $25.00 (http://www.thehomet.com/indiana-home-t-shirt/)

With the Sun or any personal planets in Cancer, your life energy is connected to “homeland security”.

This can be a physical dwelling or the “home” inside yourself which constitutes your inner radar and the deepest recesses of your being.

Typically, when Cancer is mentioned, there is an emphasis on family, but it needs to be stated that roots can be both biological and ideological in nature.

When we take a closer look at the crab, it all makes sense….

The crab is covered with a thick exoskeleton, also known as the hard shell that protects the body, and we surely can’t forget about the single pair of claws. This is in contrast to the soft interior which we don’t readily get to see.

Consider yourself to be fortunate if you get to experience the warmth and tender kindness contained within the heart of a Cancerian type.

There’s potential to  experience a soft attentive touch and have  your unspoken needs met. However, be sure to reciprocate.

It’s not that Cancer displays an intentional “moodiness”, but when they feel as if they’ve taken care of everyone else and it’s been unacknowledged, or there’s no reciprocation, that’s when the “claws” are most likely to manifest.  !!

Take a listen to Boog Brown’s “Detroit”, as she speaks about the city of her birth. Cancerian energy suggests roots and origins; the sentimentality of having a place to belong.

“Home is where the heart is regardless of how dark it is.”

Cancer Sun, Aries Moon, Sagittarius Rising

At virtually every turn, society sends out both grandiose and subtle messages that we should be afraid of the coming days. Visuals of elderly couples looking behind couch pillows to find money and preachers sweating feverishly telling us we’re going to burn in hell assault our psyches on a daily basis. As a result, our motivation to grasp our personal power as a collective vacillates between sparks of motivation and the floundering of victimhood.

If you’re reading this and you have the Sun, Moon, Ascendant blend of Cancer, Aries and Sagittarius, it’s important for you to know that the optimal use of your energies can result in someone who has banished internal fears and decided to open themselves up to living live on their own terms despite the daily dose of conditioning we receive via our age, gender, race, sexual orientation, culture, class, size, etc…

For you, the work of a strong self-awareness and intimate connection with your inner being is done through embracing risk, and embarking on challenges which will test your courage. Self-exposure is not necessarily easy for you, but it will provide a platform which will help you grow.

Your astrological signature suggests that you’re nurtured by facing your fears and there’s a spurt of development every time you do so.  What you really need to do is proceed through life with an intrepid attitude. Whether you’re fighting for a cause or feeding yourself through internal or external competition,  it’s a must that you go with the inclination to test yourself . You need goals and battles that will keep your blood pumping and adrenaline rushing. if you didn’t know, or have ever doubted that you have the heart of a warrior: NOW YOU KNOW.

The vehicle or lens through which you approach the world is telescopic. You need broad experiences and some type of guiding philosophy which will assist you in extracting meaning from your life. A good word for you is ENGAGED. It’s a necessity that you maximize your involvement with the world through consulting your feelings: listening to them and using them as a trusted advisor. The continuous challenge contained in this process is actually less of what you feel and more how you will decide to direct emotional energy. Simply put: anytime you feel the need to wallow in self-pity, understand that you’re using the same arsenal which can be infused in approaching and furthering your life, in any facet that you choose.

Intellectual and physical travel will help you immensely, as to understand that the whole world is waiting for YOU, no matter how you slice it. In every language or culture, you could translate a maxim which explains how giving into fear paralyzes us. This isn’t to say that you won’t ever be afraid of anything as you travel through life, but the key is to march forward in spite of it and not allow yourself to be immobilized.

An honoring of your internal radar, coupled with courageous action and a big picture worldview are part of your cosmic instructions.

Heavy immersion in water.

In this combination, raw emotional honesty and the potential for self-healing, as well as facilitating healing in others is illuminated through merging with one’s deepest spiritual source and nurturing your unity with nature. Your cosmic package is surrounded by an acute sense of  self-protection from the dangers which exist through a need to connect with and belong to the human family. Your celestial makeup suggests identification with the pain and suffering as well as the bliss and elation of others.

Some valid questions that this sun/moon/rising combination brings forth are : What is the meaning of authentic personal power? What does it mean to be a wise handler of such power? In what ways does my awareness empower or retard my own healing?

You’re fueled by crisis situations which hold the promise of self-transformation. Your life force is stimulated through delving into the aspects of life which transcend a superficial experience in favor of a deeper existence. You may be perceived as dangerous or threatening by some because whether it’s intentional or not, there’s a penchant for investigation, which by proxy, digs up hidden undercurrents and brings them to the light. Often, people can feel “naked” or exposed in your presence if they’re only attempting to parade what they deem as being the best parts of themselves.

This astrological makeup calls for the deep examination of any inner turmoil which exists as a result of attempts to obsessively control information about oneself. You may feel as if the more you know, and others don’t, the more powerful you are.

While you’re nourished and fulfilled by a sense of connection to a spiritual source and unity with your fellow human beings, one of your challenges is how to go about simultaneously nurturing personal connection with acute insight which isn’t meant for the faint of heart and only well received by those with a similar emotional wavelength.

The dilemma which you face is similar to the one outlined in Chapter 2 of bell hooks’ book “Sisters of The Yam” entitled “Tongues of Fire”.

Hooks writes about how African-Americans confront issues of openness and honesty. The Scorpio Sun suggests that nothing else will do, while the Pisces Moon and Cancer Rising add a refinement which can smooth a cutting edge which keeps ears and hearts open. The author says:

“Often times, black folks find it easier to “tell it like it is” when we are angry, pissed and desire to use “the truth” as a weapon to wound others. In such cases, even though a speaker may be open and honest, their primary agenda may be to assert power over another person and hence use the practice of truth-telling to assault someone else’s psyche. That’s why this chapter attempts to distinguish between the harsh critiques we give one another, which may contain “truth”, and liberating truth-telling, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.”

With all of this water going on in your chart, there’s no doubt that there’s a swirling of emotional undercurrents. You may have learned sometime in your life that using honesty to “shame” or humiliate another person is the best way to get them to do what you want. In fact, this may have happened to you and you’re merely imitating the very strategies which were impressed upon your mental and emotional body at an earlier time. It’s important that you examine if this is the case or not because your ability to facilitate healing in other people will be only as effective as your absolute honesty with yourself concerning the material that you’re still grappling with.

Amidst the sense of danger that you sometimes may feel, the “vehicle” which you’re equipped with to navigate the world is one which is designed to optimize emotional involvement, yet preserve a safe space for continuous introspection and self-care. When you’re able to understand how to create and maintain inner security, you’ll have a much better idea what constitutes a feeling of mental, spiritual and emotional well-being for others.

The drive for deep involvement and the seeking of emotional honesty in people and situations is the vehicle through which you navigate life. The lens through which you process experience is one with acute sensitivity to raw truth and undercurrents.

Simultaneously, this facilitates a serious need to develop and maintain your emotional integrity, i.e. being exactly about what you espouse. This entire dynamic is fueled by the alliances that you form with others, as you’re energized by relating in its most authentic sense.

In fact, the quality and state of your relationships at any given time is an accurate barometer of what you’re addressing or failing to confront within your own psyche. The gains that you witness regarding your ability to examine yourself objectively and without judgment will be directly reflective of the level of emotional maturity that you’ve reached.

Because you desire to live a life of depth and all that comes with it, this may require you to create a space within yourself that you visit when you feel that you’ve been wronged, disappointed or betrayed by others. This is your inner sanctuary where you process and then let go as to prevent toxic buildup of emotions.

You have no problem being “out front”, as this combination indicates strong purpose and a shrewdness which can prove to be strikingly effective in artfully managing or guiding others because you have a talent of recognizing underlying motivations as well as an eye on the practical.

Ideals illuminate your life and your strategic sense and social intelligence can certainly bring you far in meeting them. However, it’s advisable to understand the lengths you will or won’t go to achieve your aspirations, as an abuse of power and obtaining advantages by underhanded means is a disordered expression of this combination.

As the chief engineer of this astrological signature, your prime need is to foster a sense of emotional safety, which propels your aspirations of establishing equal partnerships built upon trust, reciprocity and kindness. Your immediate entrance into the world is flanked by an innate curiosity, which suggests an adroit “scanning” of your immediate environment for any pertinent information which will allow you to navigate it more intelligently.

The lens of observation, questioning and classification is used to process your experiences and form your worldview.

With this blend, mental flexibility,  emotional intelligence and social savvy can serve you as a solid strengths. One of the keys to the successful structuring of your energies is to understand that it’s unhealthy for you to live exclusively in the mind or the heart. Ideally these two units are supposed to serve as guides and informers for the other. To know when to make the transition in order to get where you need to go is one of your most important developmental tasks.

Another major lesson to be learned centers around how to develop a flexible definition of what constitutes internal security. To understand that safety doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of changing conditions, nor does it consist of a soul numbing predictability.

What you must do is locate the equilibrium which is most compatible with your overall temperament.

While you can certainly hold on to the ideal of living in an environment which is non-threatening and devoid of attempts at manipulation and exploitation, you must also employ your fortitude and the inner knowing that your adaptability renders you capable of handling such circumstances should they arise. Your tenacity and ingenuity will be the crafters of your eventual exit strategy.

Saturn in the 7th House : “The Solid Partner”

Image result for marriage

There’s a vast amount of material written about Saturn’s position in the 7th house which focuses on blocks, frustrations, control, fears and delays.

If you’re new to Astrology, chances are you may have spent an hour on the internet researching Saturn in the 7th house and possibly come away thinking that your marriage will automatically be delayed (if you get married at ALL) or you’re destined to attract stern and controlling partners.

While I don’t totally dismiss these possibilities, I wish to elevate and expand the conversation to include the undeniable growth potential that is inherent in the Saturn archetype. In a great deal of interpretations, I see an imbalance when it comes to revealing how Saturn can operate constructively in the birth chart.

Often times, as soon as the word Saturn is uttered, you can immediately queue the moans and groans from those who only know the “grim reaper” version of the planet.

While Jupiter is cast as the beneficent one, the ringed one, Saturn is reduced to images of a cantankerous old man who hates everything life has to offer. It’s my view that this is because the energy of the planet suggests that we need to work hard and possibly do MORE than is required of us. We live in a society where the possibilities of getting something for nothing, taking shortcuts and “working smarter, not harder” is frequently sold.

When it comes to personal and business relationships, which both fall under the 7th house domain, choosing to sidestep the required effort needed to be successful, rarely if ever works.

The Saturn principle is about what’s REAL and SOLID.  The planet symbolizes form and structure, as well as TIME. Anytime Saturn is involved, there’s a step by step process because whatever is being built is for the long haul and intended to stand up in the face of challenges of difficult circumstances.

In a natal chart, when Saturn is placed in the 7th house one has an opportunity to master their partnerships through living with integrity. The goal is no division in thought, word and deed. There’s potential here for a stable, enduring and mature relationship between equals.  In many instances, people “don’t feel” like this, so the assume that it must not be true.

However, what we forget is that nothing comes without a price, and just because it may be hard, doesn’t mean it won’t be beneficial for us. In working with this placement, we must be willing to commit FULLY moment after moment and day after day to our relationships despite the obstacles we may encounter. We also must develop a clear sense of reality about who we are and who our partner is.

For those of us who wish to escape into a fantasy world and refuse to accept ourselves and our partners as people with flaws, frailties and shortcomings, we may have a long, frustrating road ahead.

However, If we take our relationships seriously and invest the time, energy and discipline needed to maintain them, we can be rewarded in ways which allow us to come into greater awareness of ourselves and our partners, and tap into potentials which were merely dormant before we decided to suspend doubt and cynicism and put in the necessary work that’s required for a successful partnership.

Does this take time? YES. So, if Saturn is associated with delays in this sense, we need to make room for the possibility of no instant gratification. It may be a while before we see the fruits of our labor.

We may have to monitor our progress slowly, but surely. In witnessing improvements in increments, our fears may start to diminish and all of the sudden, we’re handling responsibilities that we didn’t necessarily view ourselves as being capable of.

Saturn is also associated with wisdom. The type of insight gained through experience which is an intermingling of joy and pain. It’s hard won. If you’re going to maximize your Saturn in the 7th house, you’ll need to be prepared with a vast supply of patience, but picture the following image:

a house so solid that nothing rocks its foundation.

The potential is there.

Saturn-Mercury Transits : “FOCUS”

Image result for focus

During this phase, you’re being asked to consolidate your communication, considering its “weight” and value. In navigating this transit successfully, you have the potential to bring more organization, structure and depth to your thought process.

The current modus operandi is to speak without pretensions: clear, concise and REAL. As da Vinci once remarked: “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

During this cycle, think of thoughts and words as currency, and picture yourself on a budget.

In the midst of this planetary activity, prioritize accuracy over speed and FOCUS over variety. It’s imperative to shoulder responsibility for intentionally refining the areas in which your intellectual time and energy is distributed.

Consider the ways in which a thoughtful, mature vocabulary can augment your personal development. So, in the event that you ARE called to speak- substance and clarity permeate your verbiage.

In the Ancient Egyptian mystery schools, before pupils could even SPEAK directly to the teacher, they were required to undergo a lengthy period of constant listening and observation. Right now, you can be the student who is only concerned about speaking to improve upon the silence. When you do, ponder on your duty to infuse integrity in the material you disclose.

It’s an optimal time to clear cobwebs and fluff out of your mind and think realistically. A disordered Saturn-Mercury transit suggests crippling doubts and fears of inadequacy concerning one’s mental capabilities. Whereas the SAME hook- up between the ringed planet and the messenger can indicate a cerebral, “steel trap” retentiveness, intellectual humility, and the conveyance of ideas with authority.

Serious and critical reflection as a labor of love, can aid tremendously in your psychological development and your results will undoubtedly reflect your efforts, in exact measure.

Gemini Sun, Cancer Moon : “Love Language”

Image result for love language quiz

In a birth chart of an individual, when a Gemini Sun is blended with a Cancer Moon, the type of fuel which contains diversity of thought, versatility and the navigation of duality meets the personality’s need for emotional and domestic security.
The essential stimulus which propels this person is one of constant mental stimulation and the rapid exchange of ideas.
This placement suggests that one needs to be kept “on their toes” and exposed to a consistently “fresh”, youthful and elastic outlook in their intellectual life. To be able to circulate freely as air does in open spaces is essential for the optimization of one’s life force.
The Cancer Moon, reflects the Gemini Sun’s light in the form of  a personality whose path to ultimate emotional fulfillment consists of forging intimate connections with others and solidifying bonds which will allow them the opportunity to nurture and be nurtured by others.
It’s a rare occasion that you find anything which feeds a Cancer Moon individual more than to be able to foster and support the growth of others. Not only does this warm and empathetic contribution towards sustaining development assist the person on the receiving end of the equation, it also provides a sense of security to the giver.

When combined, The Gemini Sun and Cancer Moon is a powerful blend of language and feeling. The potential with this combination is to fluently speak the language of the heart. To be an emotional wordsmith. Finding just the right thing to say at the appropriate time.To verbally illustrate depth of connection.

This suggests the type of individual who could be writing cards for hallmark. Someone who’s able to capitalize on their poetic expression of intimate sentiments.

The Moon in Cancer, with it’s qualities of absorption is highly attuned to the emotional stimuli contained within its environment while the Gemini Sun offers the analysis of such feelings through the clever wit and poignant observation via speech and writing. This synthesis allows one to feel a sense of relevance and importance in their own life as well as the lives of others.

When operating dysfunctionally, this sun-moon blend can suggest the scattering of emotional resources. Someone who is trying to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time; simultaneously desiring to move in one-hundred different directions and stay firmly implanted within a shell.
Astrologer Steven Arroyo writes:

“Those who are confidently centered in themselves and emotionally tranquil and content can be superbly attuned to others’ feelings and emotional needs. On the other hand, those who are at the mercy of their own moods and depressive feelings cannot rely on their intuition being accurate since often, they have lost a sense of “objective reality.”

When this sun-moon blend operates at an optimum level, the Gemini Sun assists in providing clarity for the emotional perceptions of the Cancer Moon. It could be compared to a faculty which translates the heart’s language into a dialect which can easily be comprehended.

For those who have this placement, your theme song is “Love Language” by Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek featuring Les Nubians. You can listen here:
