Cancer Sun, Capricorn Moon

astro-awesome-blue-1307986

Cancer and Capricorn are complimentary signs of the zodiac.

They’re also frequently said to be in opposition, which suggests the need to integrate the qualities associated with each sign. In the case of the crab and the sea goat, we have the synthesis of sensitivity and strength, the child and the adult, and the maternal and paternal to name a few.

In an individual birth chart, When the Sun is in Cancer and the Moon is in Capricorn, your “fuel” which consists of emotional security , forming intimate bonds and leaving an open portal for one’s intuition is  reflected in a personality  which requires a sense of control and dignity.

If you have this combination in your birth chart, part of your life’s task is to realize yourself through consciously seeking and tapping into your  emotional intelligence through both interactions in the world  and  select intimate relationships which provide a sense of belonging and foster the bonds of trust and unconditional acceptance.

As illustrated by the image above, the outpouring of feelings, represented by the element of water, require a rock, which will help to regulate and contain them as to prevent an overflow from occurring.

Conversely, if the rock did not have the water present, it might survive, but it would most certainly live a dry and crusty existence.

One of the challenges of this combination is to simultaneously allow oneself to feel, but also allow  enough room for detachment so you’re able to LET GO when necessary.

Your emotional memory can be hauntingly acute. However, when overdone, this awareness can become hypersensitive, leading to your detriment. As the re-hashing of outmoded, tear-jerking patterns proves to be toxic and antithetical to their overall development.

At best, you receive your nourishment from serving as a model of integrity and maturity through the exercising of discipline and self-control.

While this is admirable and necessary for optimal development, this dynamic can operate dysfunctionally if one begins building walls or fortresses and keeping others at a distance to mask vulnerability or the need to be loved and cared for.

In other words, “If I never allow you to see my true emotions, you can’t exploit or manipulate me.” I’m safe if I put you on “remote control”. This way, you won’t see how soft and tender I am.”

The emotions play a major part in your psyche. So, to willingly block their flow because of fear of intimacy actually cheats you.

In many cases, with oppositions like Cancer-Capricorn we end up encountering someone (like a partner) who highlights the dynamic that we’re struggling with within ourselves. Oppositions can be similar to a tug of war.

You may say to yourself that you need to feel, and you’re right. In fact, it’s as vital as the air you breathe. However, you must remain  independent and self sufficient.

Enter your mirror…..

A partner who provides everything that gives you fuel to optimize your life force; warmth, caring, nurturance and unconditional acceptance – but for some reason,  you won’t allow yourself to accept it. You somehow feel like yielding to this gift would diminish your strength, or that you would risk being under the control of someone else.

What you’re really struggling with here is integrating your needs for autonomy while understanding that deep, intimate exchanges give you energy. You need to honor both sides of this equation to navigate this blend successfully.

It’s not just your “partner” who’s the “warm” one, that’s you too- deep inside, if you’re willing to come to terms with it. He or She is, for all intents and purposes a symbol for the latent potentials you can develop within yourself.

A constructive use of your solar/lunar blending is to face the reality of your feelings. To endure the process of eliminating extraneous matter which may have blocked your ability to see things as they are and to recognize that there can be strength in vulnerability.

To honestly admit and confront a genuine need within oneself, and to make it known can become a  gift to yourself and another human being which sets the stage for a bond of intimacy which results in the ultimate self-knowledge.

Clarity and illumination can be yours. Through the successful navigation of this combination you can discover everything you need to become and enjoy being fully human in all of its facets.

Cancer Sun, Aquarius Moon

art-close-up-earings-1675869

One of the most challenging parts of our unfoldment as human beings is undergoing the process of developing into autonomous people. Staking the claim of our own identities outside of the structures which can either serve as liberating forces or stultifying traps: family, educational institutions, friendships, racial groups, gender roles, etc……

Around Adolescence, which is roughly between the ages of 12 and 18, the desire to have our unique personhood validated and affirm ourselves a distinct individual is intensified.

We want to create our own codes, live by independently established values and put our original stamp on our life patterns. Most likely, we’re not solid in exactly who we are at this point,  so the freedom to try on many hats and experiment with various identities is paramount.

There are a number of tension filled conflicts which arise during this stage: peer pressure, the beginning of consistent contact and relations with the opposite sex, major concerns about body image, attractiveness, popularity and the dilemma of “fitting in” or “standing out”.

To think that all of these polarities, complete with consistent points of crisis will be resolved neatly and cleanly by our 18th birthday is a fantasy. The process has merely started…..

The combination of  the Cancer Sun and Aquarius Moon highlights the anxious, uncertain yet exciting and electric oscillation between remaining rooted and forging forward; between the past and the future.

In a natal (birth) chart, when the Sun is in Cancer and the Moon in Aquarius, the individual is fueled by emotional and familial security. The core life energy seeks the familiarity of a tribe of like-minded individuals. The Cancerian energy is inclined to seek bonds and connections with others whether they’re “blood”, or simply because their ideologies and worldviews click.

It should also be mentioned that the dysfunction of Cancer attunement is manifested behaviorally as the inability to release these bonds, thereby holding others (and themselves) as emotional hostages. The motivation behind this behavior is often because they feel they’ve given so much of themselves through warmth, caring and active listening that it should be returned in equal measure.

The Aquarian Moon uses the Cancerian Sun’s light and energy as fuel to create a personality whose nourished by anything unconventional which doesn’t fall under the criteria of a humdrum existence. There’s a reigning emotional need to be acknowledged as a unique individual complete with all of the quirks. This person won’t be fulfilled until it’s settled that they’re “not like everyone else”.

Additionally, this Sun-Moon blend calls for the person to challenge the same tribe which stimulates their core life energy.

The misuse of the Aquarian Moon energy can be seen in behavior which is rebellious without a cause and slavish to the “fad” of non-conformity just for the sake of it, which is actually conformity by default.

When used constructively, the tension of this challenge can accelerate and broaden life development.

The Cancer fuel that’s used in belonging must make friends with the Aquarian Moon’s need for the personality to individuate.

A possible positive outcome of this Sun-Moon combination is someone who can make their “home” anywhere. An individual who has released the guilt of unnecessary familial obligation and claimed their birthright to view life through their own unique lens while remaining rooted in healthy attachments and relationships which nurture their self-actualization.

The Importance of The Sun/Moon Blend In The Birth Chart

To provide a basic introduction to Astrology, the sign” which most of us are familiar with is known as our Sun sign. It correlates with the Suns position at the moment of our birth. This is what most of the popular horoscope columns are based on. However, what these tidbits don’t tell you is that it’s far from the complete story where the makeup of our psyche is concerned.

In a birth chart, The Sun suggests the fuel that we need for the maintenance of our vitality. Its symbolic of experiences we need to realize our essential selfhood and what we’re meant to become to serve the needs of the times.

When our Sun sign is shining, we’re at our most “alive” and we feel a simultaneous sense of sanity and meaning. We radiate and feel the freedom to express ourselves most creatively. The Sun represents the archetypal masculine: active and striving energy. That which pursues.

As Astrologer Greg Bogart says regarding our Sun signs: “A central goal of this incarnation is to be most fully and consciously a Taurean, Libran, or Aquarian type of person. Feel free to insert your sun sign into that passage.

For Astrological purposes, the Sun is referred to as a planet, but astronomically, its a star, both literally and figuratively. The Sun generated light and heat and provides living things with what they need to remain healthy. When we feel good and we’re hitting on all cylinders, we really DO feel as if we can be a “star”.

The worship of the Sun goes back to ancient times because of the link between the solar force and divine energy. It can be said that when a person is expressing their Sun signs energy optimally, they’ve tapped into the “God force” or spark within.

As with everything, balance is necessary. Too much of anything has carries the potential to disrupt the equilibrium of our being. Theres no doubt that we live in a solar oriented society, and aiming our aspirations in the direction of selfrealization is an important part of our integration. However, wholeness cannot be achieved effectively without a synthesis of our dimensions. Lets keep in mind, when we stare at the sun for TOO long, it blinds us.

Enter the Moon.

In contrast with the bright rays which shine, we have the symbolism which suggests the presence of the divine feminine. The active and receptive dimensions of ourselves. The Moon has no light of its own, yet reflects the Suns light in the form of a personality.

Through this physical vessel, ones emotional needs are pursued. In our Astrological charts, the lunar force is about what nourishes us; what allows us to feel natural, comfortable and secure. Together, The Sun and Moon are referred to as the lights”. Astrologer Demetra George eloquently writes:

From an Astrological perspective, the Moon signifies how the divine intention represented by the Sun can find physical actualization in a human body and then be applied to the affairs of daily life and worldly existence so that our actions can benefit others.

It must be emphasized that when analyzing ourselves astrologically, the Sun and the Moon are a natural pair and the blend of these two entities constitutes the building blocks upon which life themes of the rest of the chart are built. If we really wanted tbreak things down to the core, we could say that the Sun is who we are and the Moon is what we need.

To illustrate how the Sun-Moon blend operates, let’s use the example of an individual with The Sun in Leo and the Moon in Pisces.

For this person, a combination of these energies would suggest a vitality which is fueled and maintained by attracting notice from others, public recognition and selfexpression through creative endeavors. Validation that one is special and has a unique gift to share with or radiate to the world, which no one else can. This Leo energy is reflected through a personality form which needs to dream, be idealistic about the human condition and merge with a spiritual source in their lives.

Using this blend optimally, we have an individual who comes to realize their selfhood through working in the intangible realms of life. The discovery of identity through identification with symbols, music or mythological figures as inspiration for the dissemination of their ideas in the public forum.

The dysfunctional expression of this combination could be one with an inflated sense of self– importance; thinking like the sun, the world (earth) revolves around them. All the while, making the choice to create an alternative emotional reality to escape the challenging elements of life.

Its important to remember that it’s our choice what level of the “elevator” we’ll decide to live these potentials. We can stay on the ground floor or aspire to the top. Either way, we’re asked by the cosmos to be who we are and fulfill our needs in the process of unfolding.

Pisces Sun, Sagittarius Moon : “Til Infinity”

The poetic signature which permeates through your life has the potential to catapult you to new heights of genius and inspiration, or contribute to a severely disillusioned and misguided mentality. There’s no doubt that you seek truth in ways which encompass all of your senses, and trusting your ability to intuit is important. This Sun-Moon combination suggests a pronounced strength holistic thinking. However, let’s not forget that the FACTS and DETAILS are just as important during your quest for spiritual understanding.

Hopefully, throughout your life, you’ll learn the necessary lessons surrounding seeing things in an ideal state vs. dealing with the concrete reality which exists right in front of your face. For you, the “power of the now” can be an exhilarating time and have life-changing ramifications.

Just as it nourishes your foundation to travel physically, spiritually and emotionally, it’s of equal significance to take what you’re learning and water the seeds of human progress. Ideas are rarely a problem, as the scope of your intellect is designed to become broad and telescopic. In fact, I would dare to say that you’re one of those people who’s able to find meaning in just about everything. To you LIFE is a symbol within itself: signs, synchronicity, and messages from “beyond” assure you that there’s no such thing as a coincidence, only divine timing and you may even consider the concept of TIME to be an illusion.

It’s obvious that your aspirations are fueled by influencing thought and elevating spiritual awareness, the question which remains is how you go about doing this. Your answer will be highly personalized, but it must include a strategy for translating the language of the higher mind to those who feel trapped in the mundane sphere of dead end jobs, never ending bills and relationship woes.

Make peace with the “instructions” that flow through you and accept that feelings and judgments from those around you may be less than ideal. There’s a sensitive spot when it comes to having your philosophies and opinions valued and respected, but do not allow this to distort your vision of clear sighted truth.

Faith is your ally, and as long as you sincerely operate from your center with pure intentions, humanity has a true friend in you.
