Uranus in the 9th House: The Futuristic Philosopher

Uranus Circle

Astrologically, the 9th house is where we form our worldview. It’s the terrain where we take our life experience and form a philosophy, or a belief system about how life works. With Uranus in the 9th house, the constructive potential of this placement is to form a cosmology which serves in the liberation of humanity.

One of your tasks is to teach and guide others in a way which radically shakes up their habitual thought patterns and cultural conditioning. You could quite possibly be considered eccentric or unorthodox because of the inclination to rebel against the “standard” or conventional way of doing things. In your mind, majority consensus often means that people haven’t looked at issues from every angle.

Even when you incorporate the traditional, it’s with a twist. You view your mission as being one which breathes new life into perspectives which are otherwise stale and outdated.  Often, there is a feeling of “majestic alienation” present. You sense as if you’re really on to something, but you look around and no one is with you.

Understand this: to effectively live this placement, you must relinquish an incessant need to have the larger society approve of your view of the universe.  While certain authority figures may be used as guides, the cosmos is asking you to synthesize your personal experiences, listen to your inner voice and gift the world with an eclectic array of your unique gray matter.

It’s important to trust your intuitive insights, as feedback from mainstream society is highly unlikely to provide you with sustenance or give you the results that you seek. Remain steadfast and stay on the path you’ve blazed for yourself. You will encounter like minds and kindred souls if you unabashedly own and wear your badge of strangedom.

Venus-Uranus Aspects in Synastry – “We Love In Unconventional Ways”

Rainbow Comission Face Circle

An attraction like a moth to a flame. Suddenly, shocking… out of nowhere. Lightning quick. Unexplained.

These are a few common ways in which Venus-Uranus contacts operate in synastry, better known as relationship Astrology. This aspect suggests a sudden. magnetic attraction with live electric currents. There is a heightened quality to the stimulation of this aspect which seems to transcend the boxes or categories we use to differentiate ourselves such as race, gender, sexual orientation, class or culture. Honestly, the beauty which you see in each other is so customized that you rarely give a damn.

Whatever enamors you about the other person may have done so to a degree that you’ll continue to pursue that attraction in the face of objection from family, friends and whomever else has the audacity to disagree with your choices. The questions which this aspect begs to answer is ” Am I “high” off rebellion? Or, is this the real thing?

What you need to know is that the potential exists for it to be REALLY REAL provided that there are structural supports in place for when the buzzing subsides, which will eventually happen. If this is NOT the case, you may find  yourself in a situation where you find yourselves in a conundrum, asking why there’s this on again/off again/on again dynamic.

One of the biggest lessons which can be taught and learned by this aspect is that there’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to relationships. At the end of the day, your fulfillment matters more than any illusory model which society parades as the end all to be all of happiness. You value and cherish your right to map out your union as you see fit and could definitely encourage others to do the same.

It’s important to be aware of the tendency to take impulsive action when your partner’s human qualities surface as if that somehow bores you. Adopting an erroneous perspective in this area could create a chronic dissatisfaction as to keep you never satisfied, seeking the next best thing, while longer term intimacy evades you and you mistake a person’s imperfections for relationship stagnation.

Take a listen to the Jazzyfatnastees “Unconventional Ways”. This song captures the spirit of the Venus-Uranus aspect in synastry perfectly:

Venus -Uranus Contacts in Synastry

Purple Turquoise Circle

It could all be so simple/but you’d rather make it hard/loving you is like a battle/and we both end up with scars/tell me who I have to be/to get some reciprocity/no one loves you more than me/and no one ever will.”

– From Lauryn Hill’s“Ex-Factor”

In relationship Astrology or Synastry, Venus-Uranus contacts symbolize the potential for a magnetic attraction. One of the looming issues which could also be prevalent is the sporadicity and instability which permeates the affections.

One of the central themes between two people that will likely emerge is the focus on one’s ability to love another for who and what they are, and the expectation that equal sentiments will be returned.

Venus suggests the relational principle, while Uranus has an impersonal quality which suggests liberation and freedom. A potential manifestation of these contacts can consist of the electrifying of a relationship that’s based on of a mutual agreement to accept and embrace one another’s eccentricities.

Or, on the flip side, one partner could easily feel that they’ve created a space for the other to develop their uniqueness, but the same consideration isn’t being extended to them. Or, one person’s idea of “liberation” strongly conflicts with the others, or as Lauryn Hill so aptly puts it in “Lost Ones” :

“My emancipation don’t fit your equation.”

What’s being tested in these contacts is one’s limits of acceptance. You love each other, but it’s really difficult to stomach the “on again, “off again” dynamic hoping that you’ll get some reciprocity and things will change.

Maybe this aspect exists to show you that what you want is more traditional than you thought. Or, it could be that you require more latitude than you imagined and you’ve simply been going along with a “normal” relationship because that’s what you thought was expected of you.

While this overview doesn’t provide the answers for you (nor should it), it may prompt a certain set of questions which will further aid you in exploring whatever balance you need to strike between freedom and intimacy in personal relationships.

If you have this aspect in synastry with someone, take a listen to “Ex-Factor” by Lauryn Hill:

Sun-Uranus Aspects in the Natal Chart

Maroon College Face Circle

To thine own self, be true.

Most of us have heard and read this phrase countless numbers of times. However, how many of us have stopped to actually ponder it’s meaning and deeper significance? If you have a Sun-Uranus aspect in your birth chart, part of your life’s mission is to explore this theme upside down and inside out.

Sun-Uranus aspects suggest a tremendous drive to put your unique stamp or fingerprint on everything you do. Whether it’s your signature way of brushing your teeth, the slang that you originate or a scientific breakthrough. Authenticity is of utmost importance to people with Sun-Uranus aspects.

In fact: A portion of your path is to develop your individuality via the uprooting of conditioned behaviors, values and customs which do not serve your distinct style of evolution.

Sun- Uranus people must participate in a revolutionary act of courage which will spur their development. They must responsibly and intelligently relinquish the person they were taught to be by family, friends, and culture, and put their efforts toward becoming the person they were meant to be, complete with a genuine life philosophy which encourages their individual empowerment, devoid of societal trappings.

If the two selves are largely in alignment with one another, the act may be less shocking. However, highly functioning people with this aspect need what they’ve been taught by others to pass their litmus test before they accept and incorporate it into their lives. When Sun-Uranus aspects operate in a dysfunctional manner, nonsensical rebellion grabs center stage.

The mental faculties are no longer guided toward realization of your unique life story, but rather the desire to overcompensate and prove to everyone how widely your non-conformist capacities span. You become the type of person who refuses to admit a movie was entertaining because everyone else liked it. Or the eccentric aficionado of super, duper obscure underground hip-hop.  Becoming authentic contains its rewards as well as its responsibilities. As a Sun-Uranus person, you must use your exceptional ingenuity to create a life which honors both.

Venus-Uranus Aspects

Orange & Blue Seal Orange Banner

“You’re not like anyone else I’ve ever met.”

In some cases, we could easily dismiss these words as trite and inconsequential “game” designed to cater to one’s ego. However, when operating in an obvious manner, Venus-Uranus aspects in one’s birth chart remind us that one could utter this statement, and it would be absolutely TRUE.

Chances are, if you’re working with this aspect, you really don’t care whether statements like that are meant to flatter you or question your “weirdness”. The fact is, you need to own it and live it.  In an individual birth chart, Venus in contact with Uranus suggests the valuing of that which is unconventional, offbeat and avant-garde. Your radar is honed toward customizing your life and relationships in a matter that screams authenticity.

However, the flip side of the coin is that you shock and ruffle the feathers of conventional society. The rebel inside of you is constantly seeking new ways to live YOUR life. Not a re-run of your parents’ life, your friends or anyone else. The cookie cutter lifestyle isn’t a part of your agenda and you make no bones about letting everyone know that.

Almost every day, inside your spirit, there’s a revolution going on. For you: revolution means evolution and the only constant that we can count on is change. You silently laugh at others opinions about your relationships and personal style and appearance, and you scoff at those who live in these spaces by rote and couldn’t conjure up an independent thought to save their lives.

If you’re exercising the potential of this planetary aspect, you’ve most certainly crafted your unique version when it comes to attraction and love. Somewhere along the line, you’ve had to come to grips with the fact that your friends and associates may not ever understand that you might not need the ring, gated community and the ski racks on your car. Hell, you may not even need the car! You can best believe that anyone you’re relating to as an intimate partner understands this, too. Or, your relationship will end just as quickly as it started.

Living freely and spontaneously and resisting labels and boxes is one of your fortes. You know the secret that us mere mortals are trying to grasp: from breath to breath and moment to moment, we’re different. From one blink of an eye to the next, we’re never the same anymore. So, what you uttered in fervent conviction two hours ago may be something which meets the fury of your disdain at this very moment.

What we can learn from you is to embrace the willingness to approach our lives from a fresh perspectives, always examining what we can possibly breathe new life into and reinvent. We can also learn about the ramifications that impulsive behavior and rebellion for sport has on personal productivity.

Uranus – Midheaven (MC) Aspects in the Birth Chart : “Waiting on My Spaceship”

kanyespaceship

” Among his various possible beings each man always finds one which is his genuine and authentic being. The voice which calls him to that authentic being is what we call “vocation”. But the majority of men devote themselves to silencing that voice of the vocation and refusing to hear it. They manage to make a noise within themselves……to distract their attention in order not to hear it; and they defraud themselves by substituting for their genuine selves a false course of life.”

– Jose Ortega Y Gasset

Uranus aspects to the Midheaven, or MC are about going “above and beyond” to grasp your rightful place in the world.

These contacts suggest that your path to reaching that status can be unconventional, and is actually best served in that way. I liken this aspect to Kanye West, GLC and Consequence waiting for their spaceship to come in.

The Midheaven is the highest point a planet can reach in the sky. With Uranus contacting that area, you still want to “fly past the sky.” To do so, you must accept and integrate the archetypal Uranian energies into your overall self-expression.

If you possess these contacts in your birth chart, there’s a clear message that you must discern between what you’re called to do and be, and  what your family, friends, societal and cultural conditioning has told you that you “should” be.

By accepting this challenge, you’re immersing yourself in a lifetime de-programming process which can eventually free you of trappings which would otherwise stifle the actualization of your potential.

Uranian energy is restless, and it won’t go unheard.

Among other things, Uranus symbolizes the development of individuality, even in the midst of the collective.

The planet asks that we depersonalize and relinquish the need for society to like or approve of what we’re doing in favor of blazing our own trail. On paper, this sounds so lofty and high minded, but you’ll find that it takes tremendous internal fortitude to wrestle in the trenches and combat resistance from those who would rather throw you into a box to soothe their fears and insecurities.

In working with this aspect, It’s essential that you’re  aware “freedom costs”.

In myth, Prometheus, who is associated with Uranus, went against the dictates of Zeus and stole fire, because he thought it was unfair that only Gods possessed a divine spark and the power to create. He believed that human beings, as a collective should have this opportunity.

As a result of his theft, he was chained to a mountaintop, and left for an eagle to come every day and eat away at his liver. Every night, the liver regenerated itself and the eagle would come back and have it for breakfast. This didn’t kill Prometheus, but it kept him in a perpetual state of pain.

One of your tasks is to explore if the pain of being chained to a mountaintop with your liver exposed for breakfast is worse than the agony of ignoring and ditching your life calling only to be haunted by whispers of “if only” and  “shoulda, coulda”.

Keep in mind that the older we get, the whispers become more audible and tend to turn into screams.

To work successfully with these energies is to literally take “no days off until your spaceship takes off.”

When your spaceship comes for you, will you be prepared to climb aboard?

If you have this aspect in your natal chart, one of your theme songs is: Kanye West’s “Spaceship” featuring Consequence and GLC.

I think it captures the spirit of Uranus aspects to the MC, or Midheaven : restless and wanting to take off; the energy of catapulting to a place or creating niche that’s uniquely our own. We don’t want to be stuck folding clothes in the mall. We would much rather pursue something that’s a marker of our individuality, which puts a personal stamp on our field of endeavor.

Enjoy!!

Moon-Uranus Contacts in Synastry: “Electric Relaxation”

kandtphoto: “ Classic hip hop right here ”

When thinking about this combination, one of the first thoughts that popped into my head was A Tribe Called Quest’s hip-hop classic: “Electric Relaxation.”

The archetype of Uranus shocks. It’s electric. Uranus symbolizes anything that’s progressive, unconventional, avant-garde, or just plain outside of the box.

The Moon is the most instinctive side of ourselves. It’s where we relax; where we feel ‘at home” in our most natural state. Also, the Moon symbolizes our deepest emotional needs.

When Moon-Uranus contacts exist between two individuals in the birth chart, there’s potential for a high voltage attraction.

Partners may feel comfortable and safe with the other because of their joint aims at individuation. This energy can be used to intensify a shared commitment toward each person pursuing their unique brand of genius. In this safe haven, “weird” is a compliment and “strange” is just a seven letter word.

Moon-Uranus potential, when developed constructively, can assist in the construction of a comfortable space for two people to honor and appreciate their quirks. The normality of personalities is not so much in question, but society’s model for normalcy is.

Central themes which will emerge at some time or another focus around a “custom made’ relationship. How THIS couple has chosen to live versus the mainstream’s promotion of “what’s good for everyone”. Maybe there’s no white picket fence, no two car garage or yearly ski trips to the same resort.

Maybe one person is from Nairobi and the other from Paducah, Kentucky, and they share a common interest in Astrology or Tarot Cards.Maybe the relationship defies the often tightly constructed boxes of race, culture, or gender. Whatever the case may be, this combination screams: “We want to break free from societal trappings, create our own relationship, and we can support each other in those efforts.”

On the flip side, Uranian energy is erratic and unpredictable. It’s rebellious. It can take freedom to a whole new level by streaking from end zone to end zone butt-naked during an NFL game.

It may very well be that the minute that things get “moony” and cozy, one person feels the need to suddenly break away. Therefore the on again, off again : ” I can’t quit you” set up is launched into high gear.

Eventually, it begins to eat away at the emotional health of both parties and they cease to be less than their best. The unhappy ending could be two people who are as scared of intimacy as they are of being ordinary. That’s a waste of this dynamic combination.

If you share these contacts with someone, you play a major part in the writing of the script.

What will your pen produce?

Understanding the Astrological Uranus: “Tear it Down”

uranustearitdown

A few days ago, I was listening to the new Slum Village album, entitled “YES!”. More specifically, a track called “Tear it Down”  which features Jon Connor. One of the first things that I thought about was Bree Newsome’s heroic climb to remove the confederate flag on the morning of July 27th. For many of us in the African-American community, this flag has served as a symbol of racial hatred, enslavement and all of the deplorable things which come with the “southern pride” that those who advocate the flying of the flag make excuses and a long-winded case for which is laced with double standards and a deep rooted history of devaluing Black lives and Black humanity in general.

I don’t for one moment, pretend to approach this article from a stance of “objectivity”, but rather one of rebelliousness; a drop of the same liberation- seeking modus operandi which propelled Bree to courageously climb that pole and declare what the planet Uranus symbolizes: going against the grain, radical change, and freedom through shocking and awakening.

Astrologically, Uranus is a planet which advocates tearing down whatever isn’t useful in existing structures. It’s the antidote to conceptual incarceration, or the confines of an overly rigid or culturally conditioned mind. Uranian energy is certainly the enemy of those who wish to advocate and uphold “the way things have always been” type of mentality.

As we look at where Uranus sits in all of our birth charts, the message is clear that this is the place where we just can’t do things the “regular” way. Wherever and however Uranus is connected to our planetary makeup suggests where we’re motivated to move past limitations which may have gathered inertia-filled roots in age, gender, race, culture, sexual orientation and so on.

In our natal chart, Uranian energy points to that genius inside us, the voice we must follow if we’re going to experience real revolution and not a contrived existence which features going along just to get along.

If we decide to own and use these Uranian resources, we may soon feel a feeling of alienation, which is one of the only “normal” things that we can count on where this planet is concerned.  The question we must ask ourselves is: do we want to live TRULY?

The functional and constructive side of this energy is pointing us to a life of being who we are without pretense. It’s quality of detachment can assist us in letting go of what doesn’t serve us with lightning speed and making room for what supports the unique quality of our being.

One of the gifts of the Uranian Archetype is wide awake awareness as a way of life.

However, we must claim it. We have to go about the business of tearing down all of the “should’s” “shouldn’ts”  which may have controlled our lives until this point. Many of us will be tempted to seek comfort in the safety of predictability, but the call to undergo deep “de-conditioning” will still remain in our charts, and this is possibly JUST the place where we could introduce something to the world which innovates and breathes new life into what’s decaying and needs that spark desperately.

HOW and WHERE can you LIBERATE – and TEAR IT DOWN?
